Radio battery drain

04 g35 coupe auto 123k miles

just picked up a g35 with the aftermarket double din and wen I bought it I noticed when key was off the power light on the aftermarket radio stayed on. I thought it was normal but 3-4 days later the car won’t crank. The first thing that came to mind was the radio, I don’t think It fully turns off wen key is turned and removed. The power button on the radio stays lit and I can hear a small hiss meaning there is power running through it still ....what can I do to fix this issue ? I can remove the trim and disconnect the radio but it’s crucial to have music !!!

Wire it up properly, or pay a stereo shop to do it for you. There's a sticky in the AV sub-forum with the proper wiring.

ok thanks , no way I’m going to shop for this lol rip offs.........so I went into the fuse box located in battery area , I removed fuse 15A which is for radio and the light now turns off wen key is off !!!! And I got my battery recharged at autozone , solved my own issue.

Perhaps you just run a relay to that circuit, so when switched power comes on your "power wire" to the radio switches on with the key. Then you get your radio back and the draw is GONE.

Yeah bypass it with a relay... Or if you didn't want to even go that far, a switch to manually cut power to the radio...

good idea. A big annoyance with aftermarket radios is they don't often have a true off button. Just standby. There are times I want to commute in pure silence.
