car damaged at my mechanic

My radiator busted a leak, so I drop it off to get a new radiator, new headlight bulbs, and change oil while it's there. when I go pick it up, there was a hump under the driver floorboard, at first I thought something was under the mat, but it looks like the metal is bent. its maybe 3 in high, and 8in × 10in and somewhat circular, I couldn't even drive it because it would catch my heel when working the clutch. I'm thinking an accident with the lift or jack. what do you guys think? and I can't imagine it's an easy fix either, FML... sucks because my family has been going here for 15+ years, and it's not the shop, it's 1 of the guys there. lesson learned, just have to start working on my own cars again. also before I left, after seeing that, I did a thorough walk around to make sure it wasn't in an accident but that was the only damage.

This happened on my dearly-departed 240z with an unsupervised newb tech...improper lift point, which he admitted when I came back..the shop ended up sending it to a body shop to have the floor pan pulled and the repair cost more than what I was originally in for. It probably can be finessed back with a block of wood and some hammers, but I would make them do it.

Yep, mechanic didn't know about jacking from the pinch welds and instead put the service jack under the floorpan and screwed up your car. I'd take it back and demand a fix else legalities ensue. Helps if you stop by a local body shop for a free quote first then take the quote to the mechanic and drop it in his lap.

I just left it their and told them I'll pick it up when its fixed. called today and they said it's ready, so we'll see tomorrow. also, is their anything that runs under the car in that area that may have been damaged from the bottom side? it still kinda baffles me, did the guy not hear metal bending/crunching, or ask himself why the jack is going up but the car isn't? jeez

Most likely there was no sound/very little, and there was at least some sort of movement. Usually, the car still goes up a bit with every pump of the jack, and it bends/dents a little more with every pump. Either way, the person doesn't know they can't jack from where ever they want

And for the future I would avoid that mechanic, if they can't even get the vehicle up in the air without damaging it there's no telling what else they'll screw up while working on your car.

I picked the car up yesterday, and they actually did a damn good job of fixing it, suprisingly it looked great. so I get to work and I'm trying to lock my car, and my viper 2-way key fob is damaged from water (the one with LCD display). it had a rubber case/skin, so it had to have been left out in the rain or dropped in a puddle.. definitley not going back.
