Instead of buying a bigger catch can... which is more money... I was thinking about a inline catch can, just making this thread to confirm it would work? From most threads on catch cans, I find that people are only really catching small amounts of oil anyway... so I suppose this works on our vq's.
Yes a compressor water trap like that will work to a degree, it's just REALLY hard to trap oil vapor when it's hot so there's nothing that really works 100% aside from a PCV delete. A large part of the reason they don't trap all the oil being consumed by the motor is because most of it is getting sucked past the piston rings, not ingested via the PCV system.

I used that "HOME DEPOT" catch can for a year until I could find room for the C6 Corvette can I ended up using! Never found it necessary to block my PCV valve...Gary
I have had the same thing on my car for over a year and a half now, very happy with it. Make sure you use stiff line or it'll collapse up and make your engine run rough.
Adding medium fine steel wool allows it to catch much much more oil because of the increase in surface area, so it's roughly equivalent in performance to anything you'd buy OTS.
When he says "steel wool" he means those spiral scrubber pads, do NOT use that fine steel wool that peels apart or you run the risk of destroying your engine if pieces get ingested through the intake.
Steel wool or pads, not necessary! Since you're going to use the easiest of catch cans it easily unscrews and can be emptied if you ever see a 1/4" of oil inside! Might take you 6 months to accumulate even close to that amount! Gary

The steel wool increases the surface area inside the can to give the oil more to condense on, it acts in a similar way to a filter. I caught about twice as much oil in a 3000 MI oil change after adding it.
Honestly I'm just using normal steel wool, I made sure the wool I used was course enough there was no chance it could be sucked through the tiny exit hole in the catch can.... but very good point forgot to mention that lol
