Trunk Wires

Gentlemen,

I've come to find out that the wiring to my trunk has been cut as most other G35s that seems to suffer from this problem at some point. I've never tackled electrical work so a few questions:

1) What would be the best way to splice the wires? Solder? Butt splice?

2) As far as adding more wiring to the existing red and green wires to give it more slack, where can I buy the wiring from and what kind of wiring is it (gauge size)?

3) I imagine the red is positive wiring and the green is ground? I'll need to get red and green wiring?

Thank you all in advance.

U can use any color wire u want, but if u wanna keep them as the same color then thats up to you. Im not sure what gauge wiring that is but get something thats about the same size. You probably only need to add an inch of wire to each line anyway.

Best and longest lasting connection is gonna be with solder. Then cover your soldering points with some shrink tubing. Then wrap the bundle of wires with some electrical tape and pull the rubber cover back over it. Tape that too for the finish.

Thanks Scorpi0. Something I never knew I guess...so it comes down to the terminal that makes a wire positive or negative? I always thought it was a combination of both, meaning the positive terminal and something in the wire itself that it makes it positive too.

Where can I get the wiring from?

Your local Lowes and Home Depot even sell this wire. They have spools in the electric dept, you can buy what you need or probably a packaged item as well but I know they sell it by the foot

I’m dealing with this for the first time now. Trunk wouldn’t open. Did some research and learned about the wire issue. Popped the rubber housing out and fished around, found two black wires snapped for me. I’m a TOTAL noob when it comes to wiring anything. I’m clueless on what gauge I need to extend it for future avoidance. And what all the different colors mean. But I guess color doesn’t matter here from what I’m reading. What I do know is that I need to solder this break as opposed to a butt connection.
