G35 knocking
G35 knocking
Ok so recently my engine started this knocking noise. I'm pretty sure it's rod knock but i never had rod knock so just trying to be sure. I'll post the link to the video here
if not rod knock what is it?.
Take out the spark plugs and inspect, sometimes a spark plug will work it's way loose and you end up with a bad vacuum sound from one cylinder, inspecting the spark plugs will tell you a lot.
It does sound like rod knock though unfortunately, take it down to a local shop because the audio quality is pretty bad. If it's rod knock any mechanic will know IMMEDIATELY when you hear the engine irl.

Get a length of 3/8" fuel line or a mechanics stereoscope and listen to various areas of the engine. I think you will hear the most relevant noise coming from the crankshaft area as it's a pretty distinct know occurring indicating that a bearing is amiss. Along with a compression and leakdown test, I would drain the oil into a clean pan then pour it through a paint filter to see what you have sitting in the oil. Cutting the filter open can offer some clues too. If you see metal shaves and copper colored bits that is the bearing material going away.
Well that's good news so maybe you caught it before any serious damage has been done. You can pull the pans and take a look but it's a ton of work and you need the proper tools, jacks, etc. to get it done.
Ok so I guess I got kinda good news. I went to shop to get it checked out cause I don't have the right tools here to fix it here but they said that it was a valve tick and they needed to be adjusted. Would a valve tick be an expensive fix?

I'm sure it's not cheap to have all of the valve buckets clearanced. All 4 cams need to come out so you might as well do a water pump and timing set while it's open.
