I'll sell you one. Just as usefull too!

But seriously, anyone will sell you one. The real question is do you really want/need one. No one I know would.

My last car (Mazda) came with a 3 yr warranty - the 5th and 6th year ended up costing my $7000 in repair bills from leaking fluids and new trannys. This time I am playing it safe even though I now own an Infiniti.

For reference, I got factory extended warranty from Infiniti for around $1200. The extended warranty covers my 2003 (bought Nov 2002) G35 till 2010.

can you still buy the extended warranty after a year or does it have to be done at purchase.

I believe you can purchase the extended warranty any time as long as your original one is still in effect. The longer you wait, however, the more expensive the extended warranty usually becomes. I havent tried getting one myself though, so sorry if I am wrong

If you are under 6000 miles, then they will sell you an extended warranty the same as if you bought it at the time you purchased the car. It is a 7 year, 100k mile, bumper to bumper warranty (the same as if the one you have now). Its about $1400 from the dealership. Be careful...some dealerships will sell you Non-Infiniti extended warranties which means you are stuck at that particular dealer. If you are past 6k miles, I think pricing will vary.

Actually, there are a whole family of "Elite Infiniti Extended Protection Plans" ranging from 60mos/60,000mi to 84mos/100,000mi. The plans are available in $0, $50, & $100 Deductable versions.

"To qualify as new, vehicle must have less than 6 months in service or less than 6,000 miles on the odometer."

"Dealer is free to sell at any price, markup, or margin."

You are free to shop around and purchase the factory warranty from any dealer you wish. According to checkbook.org a typical dealer markup on such an item might be on the order of $500.

A gentleman in the Sedan Forum a couple of weeks ago posted the pricing sheet for these policies but there seemed not to be much interest here in the CPE forum..

After ordering an 05 CPE 6MT for $500 over invoice six weeks ago, I don't want to do something dumb by paying too much for the extended warranty and essentially forfeiting any perceived $$$ savings.

Checkbook.org in general doesn't support the notion that an extended warranty is a good buy - however, they acknowledge that it provides a needed peace of mind to many. My wife falls into this category, and it's to be her car, so an extended factory warranty we will get.

You are right it is more of peace of mind but if you have one major defected part it would be worth it. I have already replaced driver side window motor, front & back left side speakers so far. Nothing serious but who knows what would happen.

Called my local dealer this is what they quoted.

$1800 for 3yr/36,000 or $1649 with $50 deductable for 3hrs/36,000
extended warranty can be purchased anytime before 4yr/60,000 miles.

I wonder if this price is independent of the dealer... hmm, maybe I should ask different dealer before 60,000 mile.
