03 valve cover replacement

I'm going to change my valve covers since I have so much time right now. While I'm doing this is there anything I should be replacing or cleaning? Anything you guys suggest to replace at same time?

Good time to check the PCV hoses for cracks, possibly replace your knock sensor sub harness if it's cracking.

A few questions,
1. When I put the new valve cover on I'm using a new gasket from a felt pro do I put any gasket maker on the block itself.

2. I have oil consumption besides this leak. What do I look for while I have everything apart to try and eliminate this as much as I can.

While changing valve covers, I would suggest the following:

1) Change the spark plugs with Nissan OEM plugs (they are super cheap).
2) Clean the snot out of the upper intake plenum (brake cleaner and some elbow grease).
3) For fun, install a new intake plenum spacer if you have the budget.

I did this about a year ago. I went with the Maxima valve covers (for the improved spark plug well gasket design) and regret doing that in some ways, was a bit more involved than I had hoped but not bad to save $160.

1) I don't have experience with FelPro gaskets for this model ( I used OEM), but I would recommend only using gasket maker up near the timing chain cover where the FSM recommends it. When installing the OEM covers, the gasket snaps pretty tightly and securely into valve cover. You can use some tacking agent or a little bit of gasket maker to make sure they stay in place.
2) Your oil consumption if noticeable is likely due to an internal engine issue (Inside the short block). You might be able to see some blowback and carbon around some of the valves if this is the issue. Leak valve stem seals could cause some oil consumption but you have to take the head off to replace those.

Like cleric said, the pcv hoses were very brittle on mine with 95k. Might as well get the silicone pcv kit from z1 and never worry about it again

Are you buying new valve covers so you have new plug tube seals or reusing the old covers? The gaskets can fall in very easily unless you use RTV in several spots. I love the new Fel Pro revised gaskets they are bright blue color and are easy to see if they have fallen in while installing the cover. That rear passenger corner is a PITA. I have a mock up engine in the garage that I use to silicone the gaskets to the valve covers and lightly tighten them down and sit overnight to dry so they are really easy to install the next day.

On that kit if you have the Z-tube you need the 350Z kit. If you have the stock G35 intake you need the G35 kit.

I drew red arrows on all the spots to use permatex ultra grey rtv. These are the 3 pages of the FSM you need to change out the rocker cover gaskets.

Agreed, hopefully you got the whole kit https://www.z1motorsports.com/cylind...ge-p-7167.html I got this last summer, finally did the install and completed in late October/ early November. No longer have the oil build up on the exhaust it seems either. But cleaned out the MAF sensor, changed out the plugs while everything was apart. I had such a smell of oil coming in the car, it seemed especially if I got on the car at all.... happy to say no smell, no oil drip and I have only put on 1200 miles or so since doing it so cant comment on the oil consumption but assume since I do not see even a drop of oil in the engine, its all good. Took me about 3 days to do a couple hours here and there... if you get up on a nice day bright and early you should be able to knock this out in a day with no problem. Remember to label each bolt with tape where it goes as you take them out of the plenum as they are all different sizes.. take your time with it. Its a fun project if you are in that kind of mood and having the time.

The fsm has the length for the bolts and location. Only 3 different sizes
