2003 g35 4m problem

I’m having the typical 03 g35 sedan buyers remorse after learning I cant use gears 1-3 manually. Has anyone found a way to combat this? Any type of ecu, chip that makes it so I can utilize all of my gears manually with the triptonoc system? I can be at a dead stop, put it in mode and I’m still only able to set a top gear instead of choosing which gear I want to be in. WHO GOT THE FIX!!

Clean up the transmission ground wire, it's landed on the top of the timing chain cover.

I've never heard of not being able to manually select gears 1-3 though?

yes so apparently on models 03- and some of 04 when you switch into the sport mode you have the option of 4 or 5, and it isn’t which gear you are in, but only a setting to limit the highest gear you want to go to, which is useless. I’m trying to see if anyone has any knowledge on an ECU or something of the sort that works like the later years

Yeah I just read through another thread about that. Unfortunately I've never heard of an aftermarket fix for this. Yet another reason to not own the 2004.5 or earlier sedan.

I have a 2004.5 sedan and I can lock/shift to any gear (within reason) I want to
So you are saying that from a dead stop, if you throw it into manual mode it will display '4', and lock you out of 5th gear? You can't 'shift' down to hold first from a stop, or downshift to any gear for that matter?

yes you are exactly on point, i can only pick 4th or 5th even from a DEAD stop and it just sets a max gear. I was thinking if I took a later year sedan or coupe ECU from my year, would it allow me to have full control in manumatic mode like those years?

I dont know that anyone has ever tried. There might also be some compatibility issues between the newer ECM and the older TCM but maybe not. Worst cast it would require the newer ECM, TCM, BCM, and IPDM, as well as requiring some pin changes.

Fortunately the FSM for both is available for free. Probably want to program itself all yourself with Nissan Datascan 2.
