That's normal. I have a 2003 that came with the 10 speed option. I put on the gas saving mode and it goes from 1st gear, straight to 9th gear. I'm getting about 48 miles/gal

ooh yes ok, hhhmmm never changed fluid and it has 8 speed forward I guess you say it? the thing is I had an issue with the Camshaft sensor bank 2, went on and replaced it but when tried to pull the plug the wires came out ant the plug stayed on the sensor, when I guessed the wire order came out a week later there where not in the right order so I changed them and now having issues with the shifting. it also gives me the code "P0350" it's a coil pack.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
OP stop touching your car immediately, you need to take your car to someone who's qualified to work on it before you *** it up worse than you already have. You don't even know what you are driving and that worries me when you talk about doing work on it yourself.

I know the G's been out for a long time now but it deserves a better fate than this...........

I'm guessing he's got a non-us spec car:

The V35 Skyline in japan comes in an optional CVT-8 transmission.

CVT = Continuously Variable Transmission (8 spd)

It is also known as the "Extroid" transmission. There is no belt or chain to link the varying transmission ratios, nut instead uses a couple pairs of rollers

The rollers link the input disc (connected to the crankshaft) and output disc (connected to the driveshaft).

By varying the angle of rollers your transmission ratios can be obtained. For "low" gearing ratio, the rollers meet the input disc near its inside diameter, but meet the output disc near its periphery; thus the output disc turns much slower than the input disc. The overall ratio range is 4.4:1.
You'll probably have a lot better luck on a Japanese 350GT board, since few people here are running non-US spec cars.
