04 g35 coupe satellite radio hardware
04 g35 coupe satellite radio hardware
I'm looking to solder a bluetooth module to my stock head unit, and i got curious about this satellite radio setting. Of course, when i touch that button in my car, it says "no sat." However, does anyone have experience with owning the satellite hardware in their g35? I see some on ebay looking rather affordable. Would it make sense for the hardware to fit my car if it didn't come stock?
My ideal plan would be to buy it, install it, and then just hijack the sound output from it. Then i'll look for a trigger wire to jump so it turns on with the car. Aiming for a completely stock look.

The harness connection is already there in the trunk, left side under the deck. You'll need an antenna ("olde tyme" FAKRA connection, or an adapter to use a modern mini plug) and a subscription. You'll have to choose between Sirius or XM tuner which will make a difference in what subscription you get. While it's one company now, the satellites still use different codecs.
Note that the originals had no memory for buffering, so the signal will drop out for overpasses and deep mountain valleys when outside cities. This is not an issue when using the terrestrial signal in urban areas. Newer tuners will not fit the connector on the harness.

I have a sat tuner from a 2012 G25 in my ‘04. The reception is much better than the older module I had. You only need a different antenna or FAKRA adapter.
