2005 G35 Coupe 6 Speed - What is it worth?
2005 G35 Coupe 6 Speed - What is it worth?
Hey guys,
So after about a year of owning my G35, i decided that i wanted to sell it and purchase a newer G37. People are telling me my car is worth "8 thousand at the most." I strongly disagree, and would love all of your views and opinions on this car. Let me explain why.
- 60,000 original miles on a manual transmission
- CD009
- Not consuming a lot of oil (obviously more than usual for most cars, but less than rev-ups are known for)
- I'm the 2nd owner. It is a California driven car, zero rust.
- Sports package (Original owner did not get wing, but does come w the 19" alloy wheels)
- Pearl black paint on black interior with the tan headliner
- All around very clean car for being 15 years old.
Mod wise, i haven't done anything crazy.
- Exedy clutch and lightweight flywheel
- RJM Performance clutch pedal
- Torque Solutions short throw (which i learned is complete garbage)
- Z1 Test pipes
- Z1 m-spec shift ****
- Strut bar
- Painted front grill (sand, primer, paint, clear)
Maintenance
- Oil change every 4K
- Diff fluid at 60K
- Trans Fluid at 60K
- Oil at 60K
- Coolant at 60K
- Clutch fluid at 60K (motul 5.1 brake fluid) with a stainless steel clutch line
- Replaced drivers side HID bulb 1K miles ago
Interior / Exterior
- Paint is swirled, but i'm currently doing a full paint correction all around
- Interior has small cracks on the dash
Other than that, everything is perfect. Drivers side seat shows wear, but hasn't ripped quite yet. Passenger side is perfect.
There is one big downside;
Currently, the exhaust is coming out from the middle of the car. Yes, i realize that sounds cheap, but me and a buddy are purchasing a welder here soon, and i wanted to build my own custom exhaust. Now that i plan to sell it, i could easily replace the old cats and old muffler if need be.
I regularly wash this car, wash, detail, claybar and a wax. i maintain the leather and dash and make sure it is always clean and protected against UV rays
In my opinion, this car is worth 13,000. I'd post it up for 13,500 and wait for the offers and slowly drop it. nothing below 12K
I've seen G35's up with higher miles (80K-90K) for around 10K.
I know very well that low mile manual G35s are sought after, especially with the black on black. What do you guys think? I would post pictures, but have not even posted up the car yet. I want to finish the paint correction first, as well as decide if i should put on the old cats or leave the z1 pipes on with the original muffler.
edit;
it is also tinted, i would take a guess as it is 30% tint. I bought the car with it.
Any thoughts or suggestions i could get would be awesome, thank you all.

Sounds like a pretty nice ride.
I hate to say it but I think you’re probably at a top end of $9500. That’s based on what I’ve seen the last 6 months for black on black 6mts. (And I’ve been watching). To get over $11,000 I believe you would need an 06 or 07.
I think you’re overvaluing the more you have, which aren’t much like you said. Maintence is maintenance. It’s expected and doesn’t earn you an extra couple grand in my opinion.
Location matters too. Where are you?

I tend to agree with Surf.... its great you do / did all the maintenance, but at end of day you'd expect people to properly maintain their vehicles... this doesnt add value to someone looking to purchase, but would likely be why they buy yours vs someone elses.
Having bought a MINT 2006 3 summers ago (47000 miles, fully loaded), id have been less attracted to the car if it had the list of mods.... i was specifically looking for a 100% original one (again that's just me) but to spent that kind of $$ on 15 yr old car, I wanted assurance nobody had hacked away / made mods etc.
Im also seeing some very high asking prices here in Canada as well, so perhaps the prices are starting to creep up? or maybe sentimentality costs $$.

Prices are all over the place and really depend on your local used car market. List at what you value the car at. The right buyer will either materialize or not and you'll have to reassess/adjust or be willing to take offers. That said, based on what I've seen, your ask of 13k is more in line with a the unicorn stock/garaged gramp's Sunday driver with one owner and 15k miles on it and a fully documented service record OR on the modded side, a built and well sorted vq with choice mods/tune/etc ready for forced induction.
Regarding the exhaust, if you have the original or can source an original exhaust, you might want to just go that route and offer the test pipes or sell them separately. A quality aftermarket adds nothing, and a custom/straightpipe would likely be a detractor for anyone looking for a low-mile starter.

If you're looking for highest returns, you'll want to sell the car as stock as possible. Most people view aftermarket mods as freebies that they're getting rather than added value to the car.
