Mileage Discrepancy
Mileage Discrepancy
I've had my 07 coupe since 2018, and it read 78k miles when I bought it. It's now reading just over 100k, but Carfax shows the last report at 220k before I got it. Now it has some mechanical issues and I was looking at selling the car but now that discrepancy kills the value. Is there any way to verify the original miles? I called a couple of local dealers a while ago and they said either there is no other place that the mileage is stored or I'll be charged for just the visit regardless. I should have dealt with this sooner but it didn't seem like there was a solid way to go about it. I saw something about contacting Infiniti customer service, would they be able to help? Thank you!
Not sure where you are located, but maybe there is a way to obtain a vehicle history from your states DMV?
The dealers should be able to tell you of any service history in their system (if the car was serviced at Infiniti)
The best way to verify (to my knowledge) is to use the carfax. If the carfax history shows the mileage rising up to the 220k, then its a good bet that was the legit mileage.

That important information could have been used to either lower the purchase price or walk away. Since 07 hundreds of thousands vehicles all over the United States were involved in flooding. Hopefully yours wasn't one of them but I think you should just sell the vehicle.
Just my $.02
Usually the best way to verify the mileage is with a Carfax, so if it is saying 220k and you didn't verify before buying yourself, i'm not sure there is much you can do. There is a big difference between 78k and 220k miles, so if you think the condition signals its closer to 220k, then it probably is. I would disclose that discrepancy and sell the car for what its worth at the likely actual mileage. Good luck with the sale.
