04 Coupe dies when started.

Hey fellow DE owners,

My 04 G35 Coupe is giving me issues. I tried starting the car today and after starting, the car would turn over immediately, then die. It did this three times until I gave it some gas. After revving it for 5 seconds the car started with no issues. Do you think there is any issues that could cause this?

I've run into this issue, and oddly it only occurs the first morning after I do a ECU reset. Not sure what causes it, but in the same instance as you I held the accelerator open about 1/4 to 1/2 and it will finally light off.
Can you hear the fuel pump prime briefly when you go to start the engine?
I would hope you've kept up with basic maintenance? Spark plugs, air filter, oil and filter?

Scan for hidden codes, wouldn't be surprised if you have a cam or crank sensor code.

Scanned for codes. Nothing comes up. I also clean the MAF sensor. Still causing issues.

I checked the fuel pump, I can hear it. I have kept up with the basic maintenance. Changed oil every 5k miles and air filter every 10k. I changed the spark plugs at 160k miles. Car is at 210 now. Do you think that may be an issue?

I'm betting it's just a vacuum leak that's more prevalent when the engine is cold. When you give it gas is there a bit of a hesitation before the engine really revs? Especially if you are stomping the pedal WOT?

Yes, there is a little bit of hesitation. When the car starts up, it usually starts revving to 2500, but lately it revs to 1500 then dies, unless I hold my foot on the throttle for a few seconds upon start up, it dies immediately.

The car usually revs to 2500 on average when in drive. I have a light foot, so I tend to not push the hell out of the throttle. But when I do push it there is some hesitation then it's good.

Like Cleric mentioned, you may want to check for vacuum leaks.
Check the air intake boots, they like to crack, and I'd be especially suspect on any G with 200k+ miles.
Check the evap hose on the backside of the intake plenum too. Brake booster lines as well.

Thank you. I will check them out today. The G does have over 200k, so it is likely something like that.

Solved! I checked all hoses and they appeared good. I looked at the throttle body and it was absolutely disgusting, charcoal black. I cleaned with some throttle body cleaner and put it back in. Car started with no issues. Thank you again for the help.
