Car won’t start
I was driving home yesterday with no problems with the car, and then I went to start it up this morning and it just wouldn’t turn over/start. Thought it would be the battery. So I charged it up and tried starting it again and no luck. It’s making a clicking sound when I turn the key all the way. I’m thinking it could be the starter but not sure.
Clicking means not enough voltage to turn the starter motor so it's just rapidly engaging/disengaging the start solenoid.
Usually this is a discharged battery. Can also be caused by corrosion on the battery terminals and/or the other end of the battery cable.
Disconnect the battery, clean everything up with a metal brush, apply a very thin layer of electrical anti-oxidation grease like ILSCO DEOX or Ideal NOALOX (parts houses usually have very small packets at the front counter for a couple bucks, Home Depot will have larger bottles) make sure you aren't using dielectric grease, gotta be anti-oxidation grease. Be sure to clean up the alternator wire while you're doing this. The fusible link has multiple contact points that need to be cleaned up, not just the part that bolts to the battery.
While you're cleaning up everything charge the battery again.
Put everything back together, start, if it won't start on it's own jump start with another vehicle. If it starts from a jump then the battery no longer holds enough charge to crank the motor and needs replaced.
