My local service center suggested I call Infiniti consumer affairs about the sat situation. My car (G35c) was built in Jan.
But my understanding from the local Infiniti dealer was that your car had to have been built in April to have prewiring already installed. But rumors from other forums indicated that there were some cars that did have the prewiring also installed pre April. Well, I called the consumer affaris. They asked for my vin, and after a few minutes of checking, they confirmed I had the prewiring already done. Lucky me! So, if you want to see if your car is also prewired, call 800 662 6200. Have your vin handy. If you are not prewired, you will be out of luck for the time being. They will just advise to get something aftermarket. But, I would suppose that Infiniti will have to come up with a 'fix' for that. Anyway, my local dealer had the XM and Sirius available. Now I don't know which one to get. Any suggestions on this point? Probably leaning to Sirius as it is mostly commercial free.

 

I went with XM, as it is slightly cheaper and has a larger subscriber base (more likely to be around later). Also, the programming is terrific and the commercials are minimal.

 

I phoned also and found out that the Coupes with VIN #'s higher than 210826 will be prewired for SAT. Just to clarify: my VIN is:.....JNKCV54E03M206884. so mine is not prewired.

I knew nothing of satellite radio but went with XM on my order, in general for resale value, whenever that might be !! Specifically, with XM due to a larger customer base and the research I did showed stronger new customer growth too. Also, understood that Sirius was commercial free(?) but thought that might threaten the company's longevity. Kind of like free internet service. ...dean

There is a post on FA from DFW_infiniti, explaining that there are some coupes that were in fact prewired for SAT, prior to the date announced by Infiniti.
It involves looking for a white connector in the trunk on the left side near the amp.
I called consumer affairs, gave them my VIN (209909), and they informed me that my coupe is NOT prewired.
However, I have the white connector in the trunk.
My build date is 01/03.
Go figure.

Infiniti Consumer Affairs doesn't know what it's talking about most of the time unfortunately, so I wouldn't take the VIN numbers they give you too seriously. They contradict themselves constantly. Best way to find out? Either check the sticker in the doors to see if it's pre-wired, or better, check for the white plug in the trunk (according to the post on Freshalloy). If you have it, you're good to go. If not, you're unfortunately not.

 

No plug so no prewire. too bad. Oh well I'll just have to listen to the pipes and crappy old CD's instead of SAT.

You could always go aftermarket and get yourself a delphi XM unit.

 

For my own personal use, I wouldn't go the extra dough. Now if it were there and ready to go like Infiniti said it would be, I might be interested.
