Good G35 Mechanic In Richmond Virginia
Good G35 Mechanic In Richmond Virginia
I’m trying hard to keep our two sons G35’s running til they get out of college. My oldest is in Richmond Virginia, and called me saying his 2003 G35 coupe is making noises and the check engine light, vdc and slip lights are on.
I’m a good distance away in Indiana. We are at the mercy of a repair shop; I have no other choice. Can somebody recommend a shop in Richmond Virginia that
I can trust to diagnose and repair his G35 ?

Pretty long odds that someone from Richmond will pop up with a recommendation. Frankly in your situation I would probably just bite the bullet and use an Infiniti/Nissan dealer.
Second option would be to find a Nissan specialist repair shop and then do the usual research on internet reviews.

Thanks for the response. The word dealer puts fear in my wallet. Someone who works on a lot of G35's would be ideal since their problems seem to be similar. Familiarity would be a plus. I called a local NAPA auto parts store and asked if they could recommend a good mechanic/repair shop. I think we found somebody. Not an infiniti specialist, but Fingers crossed....
First things first, just drive down to a local auto parts house and have them put an OBD2 scanner on the car to see why the CEL is on. Might be something absolutely insignificant like the fuel gauge low input (fuel sender will make the gas gauge read incorrectly so you just have to track miles on the odometer).
Slip/VDC primary culprit is low brake fluid level in the reservoir, as the brakes wear the pistons need to travel further which takes fluid from the master cylinder reservoir. There is a float switch in it when it drops low enough that will turn on the VDC/Slip lights.
Also, the G35 is notorious for drinking oil and if your son isn't checking the oil level regularly (only check on a cold engine first thing that day before it's been started, these cars are bad about proper oil level readings). He might be seriously low on oil thus making a lot of noise as well as throwing a variable cam timing code due to not enough pressure to actuate the cam advancer.
Start with checking all fluid levels, then drive to the auto parts house for a free scan.
