Fuel Gauge inaccurate
Fuel Gauge inaccurate
Hey guys,
I drive a 2005 6mt g35 and since I bought it, the fuel gauge has never gone below the halfway mark despite me running it almost empty a few times.
I now use my odometer as a gas gauge but I'd like to fix the gauge.
I've tried cleaning both float sensors under the backseat and that wasn't the issue.
Is my next step to get a new cluster?
Thanks in advance

lots of threads for this. do a search for "fuel gauge problem detailed" and you'll find lots of info. it can be a couple of things but i think the most likely is some resistors in the combo meter (cluster) need to be resoldered. it's possible to diy. i followed the thread and fixed mine myself after having the same doesn't go below half full problem. Read all the way to the end so you get the details about how to set your needles back to the correct position during reassembly.
Check the FSM section DI - Driver Information to use a digital multimeter to test for proper resistance signal from the fuel pump sender. If it's got the wrong resistance value when you know you are less than a half tank then take the sender out and clean it or replace it. If the resistance value continues to scale down but the needle on the gauge won't move then you need to repair/replace the instrument cluster.
