1/4 mile question for the smart guys
1/4 mile question for the smart guys
I have a 05 g35 auto, and i live in federal way, wa and we have a track near by used to be called SIR, now its called Pacific Raceway. So my question is would the car run faster there because its pretty close to sea level, or no. Im not a huge racer so its probably a dumb question, Im not gonna get like a 15 sec 1/4 mile or something
hey iilegal racer7, do you know what day or dates the raceway is open to public just for fun(measuring 1/4mile)? and do we need to buy helmet? (I heard about the place but not know much of it.. and I really want to go race and measure my 1/4mile)
Cool to find people up in Washington. I'm in Redmond. I'd like to learn more about Pacific Raceways as well. The website's not so great; http://www.pacificraceways.com/
Faster than what? Instrumented 1/4 mile times done by car magazines and manufacturers are almost always done at or near sea level.
But if you're comparing it to a track that is several thousand feet in elevation, then yes you'll be faster at sea level.

heres an example... fontana is at 1500ft el. carlsbad is at about 150ft. i ran my i35 on each track(the carlsbad track was in worse condition btw) and got 15.4 best at fontana and 15.2 best at carlsbad. so 1000ft knocked off about .2 off my time.. i havent ran my G yet

Check out this link Time Slip Correction. There is much more to the equation than just elevation. If you read this website you will be able to understand exactly what factors in and what doesn't (as far as the known variables are concerned) and this is a "better estimate" than anything else I can find.
There are uncontrolled variables like:
tire pressures
amount of tread life
tire temps
engine temp
type of fuel
date of last oil change
drivers skill
and on and on and on...
Have fun experimenting.

Altitude make a huge difference. The track here is at 5200+ft and at that altitude it adds 1.0 secs to your 1/4 time. I've drive cars from here down to 2000 ft and the cars seem to come alive.
Its a black 05 AT with 19s, Im waiting for the 3000 miles mark to go and race my car hope ill hit low 14's cause my car was a 02 accord coupe 4cyl 5spd with intake and greddy exhuast. And for my very first 1/4 mile run in my life i got a 16.1 with a car thats got 150hp to the crank, I hope the g wont let me down, hasent so far.
I live like a minute away from wild waves, new house development on the right as you drive towards milten on enchanted parkway, right across the baptist church before military road. where do you live ballingG35
