High Coolant Temps on Highway
High Coolant Temps on Highway
Hi, I recently purchased an 07 coupe, it was pretty cheap and it was obvious it had issues. One I've recently run into is that cruising on the highway at 85ish, the coolant temp got pretty high. To be fair, it was relatively hot out, the car said it was 87°F. But the coolant gauge moved up from it's normal spot below halfway to about halfway. Torque said it was hitting 230°F. As soon as I got off the highway it returned to normal, and the coolant level was fine. Do these cars normally get hot on the highway? Or should I add a cooling system refresh to my growing to do list? It seems fine temp wise around town, btw.
I would do a pressure test, probably just not holding pressure somewhere.
At highway speeds it wouldn't be due to failing fans or anything like that. There's plenty of airflow across the radiator when moving that fast.
