Can Gauge Cluster be powered up manually / removed from car?

Looking at swapping out my gauge cluster with a Canadian one... Mines an american car and Id prefer to have KM/H as the large font.

Not sure if buddy has already removed it from the car, as I asked him to confirm the actual mileage on the cluster... If its removed already, could it be powered up to simply show the mileage?

I assume not, as would likelky need to be hooked up to the car's computer etc, but figured Id ask the experts

Very hard to find gauge cluster in KM/H, especially in manual with very low mileage (my car has 88,000km, this cluster is showing 94,000 so its close enough to be worthwhile (even if I sit on it til my car hits 94000 (~59000 miles)

Also, assume no issue putting cluster from '07 into my '06?

The mileage is stored on the cluster not the ECM for the V35 chassis, not sure about the V36 chassis. I think the cluster can be reprogrammed by Nissan to correct mileage? They have a way to get clusters with the correct mileage but it might have been something like they ordered a cluster with a specific mileage directly through their parts supplier. Expensive and not worth it imo.

As for powering up the cluster remotely, yes it can be done

Instrument cluster harness M19 is the wire side of the harness

Full time power to pin 21 red/white stripe
ACC power is pin 18 light green

Ground pins 1, 24, 25 all are black

This will get the dash to light up like it was in ACC power.

For ON power you need power to pins 22 and 23, both green/yellow stripe

Keep in mind this harness diagram is the side that plugs into the dash, and is looking from the FRONT of the harness (basically the same as looking from the front of the instrument cluster, looking from the back will be mirrored). I strongly recommend using a salvage harness to test rather than isolating out specific pins on the dash just to prevent accidentally arcing something out that isn't supposed to get 12vdc. Find a G in a local pick n pull salvage yard and cut the dash harness off of it to use for test.

No issues going from a 2007 to 2006 as long as they had the same transmission. There are substantial differences between the 6MT and 5AT dash.

I don't know if there will be issues going from a USA build to a Canadian dash, there were some differences for the SYMBOL on the dash because Canadians use a different brake warning indicator and ABS indicator (theirs have a circle around the symbol, USA just says the word). Shouldn't matter because it's just the shape of the cutout in the front of the LED light.

Daytime running lights wouldn't matter because that would be handled by the IPDM and all it does is send a CANBUS signal to the instrument cluster that the headlights are on or off.

As long as it's the same transmission you SHOULD be able to use that dash I think.

Awesome information as always, thanks!
Hes confirmed the actual mileage (still in car) so no issues from that standpoint.

Also it turns out his is a 2005, not a 2007 (typo in his ad) and his has the CD009 TRANSMISSION, so looks like this should work well... going from 2005 to 2006, both manual coupes.

Yep it should work. The only thing you should verify first is it you have RAS or not. Turn your ignition to ACC/ON for the lamp check and see if you have a light that turns on near the speedometer that says RAS. If you do have a RAS equipped model then you will be missing the lamp on the dash because it was not an option in 2005 and I don't think those clusters came wired up for it until 2006 when the option was added.

RAS was not a common option, it was only available as an option for 2006-2007 on 6MTs

Yup, all clear on the rear steering, mine doesnt have it.

Appreciate the insights and info though.... will be happy to swap out the clusters, way too easy to speed in the G and Canadian cops dont fall for "Sorry I mixed up Miles and Kilometers", specially as a Canadian... LOL (easier to believe if an American uses that excuse in Canada)...

Ive been watching for ~ 4 years and this is the first cluster worth snagging... Most Ive seen had 200,000+ KM or were from 03/04's
