Using a non-navigation gauge cluster in a navigation equipped car? Any issues?

I am looking to purchase a non-navigation gauge cluster/speedometer for use in my navigation equipped car. Are there any modifications I need to make to for the non-navi cluster to work in my navi car? What if I decide not to modify, what functions will I lose on my navi?

Finally, I am worried because the cluster I am looking at buying has higher mileage than my what is on my car. Is the mileage stored in the cluster, or in another module in the car?

I wanted to do the update the cluster on the car to the 06-07 style, so I need a spare 03-04 to hack into (which is what I am looking at buying).

Thanks
