2005 G35C Debate

I am looking to purchase a 2005 G35C in about a month. I'm looking for any opinions on the 6MT and 5AT on this ride. I noticed a majority of the inventory for most local dealers are 5AT's. Are they just more popular and user friendly or are they just what's left since all the 6MT's have been scooped up? I understood from an earlier post that "Limited Slip" is not offered in the 5AT for this model year due to a factory error. Aside from the obvious warrenty issue, Nav or aftermarket Nav? Any advice from you folks would be greatly appreciated.

Is there anything else I need to look for while shopping?

I know this isnt the answer you want to hear but I would definetly do a search and you may get a lot of opinions. The 05 A/T's are a lot more popular on the road and hense forth theres a lot more on the lot. The M/T's are VERY hard to come by at the moment and many people have to order them to get the color choice they want. For the AT vs MT question, Many people on the board Swear by MT, many are completly satisfied by their AT. Some people blew out the clutch on their 6MT in a matter of 2 weeks and wish they got an AT and some AT owners wish they got a Stick. What Im trying to say is that the transmissions of both the AT and the 6mt are very nice and so far have been reliable, Its your choice.

The "Limited Slip" differential is offered on the G35c. It's just not part of the "Performance Tire and Wheel Package" (it was part of that package last year, and it was originally advertised that way this year. Per the Infinit web site, :
Sport-tuned Suspension Package

$1,600.00
Sport-tuned Suspension
Viscous Limited-slip Rear Differential
19-inch 5-spoke, forged aluminum-alloy wheels with Y-rated tires
Aluminum pedals
Perforated leather and orange stitching on steering wheel
Available on G35 and Standard on G35 6MT
I think there are fewer 6MTs available because this is a luxury brand, and more people want automatics.

These people are known as BAD drivers. Seriously, who ruins a clutch in 2 weeks?

If you are an MT driver, you will love this tranny. If you are not a diehard shift it yourself type, then both transmissions will be rewarding for you.

Test drive both cars. I was dead set on the 6MT until I made myself test drive the 5AT, and after that I knew the 5AT was the better decision.

Wanna trade for my 04 6MT? Lol.

I really dislike the manual transmission in the G all the way around. I've driven far better in far cheaper cars.

Oh well......it's time to see if this can be remedied or time to move on to the next ride. I really thought I would be able to get used to this tranny, but, the clutch is so poor and catches so late and weak that it kills the sporty feel of the car. Not to mention the heavy shifter. The sad thing is I love everything else about the car--but, the clutch and shifter IS WHAT GIVES A SPORTSCAR its character!

For me the 6MT is a special car, the manual is what defines the G for me. Its an amazing car all the way around. The shifter, the suspension, the power are all balanced quite well.

I disagree..

I testdrove the 6MT and the 5AT, and I prefer manual tranmissions. The 6MT is a much rougher ride. That might be what some people are looking for, but I prefer the smooth shifting 5AT transmission. Not to mention, the manumatic shift mode is a lot of fun. Testdrive both and see what you think..

I know that 5ATs are a LOT more popular than the 6MTs. I believe the dealer at Circle Infiniti around here (which had the largest inventory around here in NJ) said that only 1 in every 12 G35 coupes ordered were 6MTs.

I dont think I would complain with either one, I just prefer an Auto trans for this car.

Personally, I like the MT. Clutch is wat differs any real car from a simulator car game. Its just more fun to drive as you are more involved in the car. That is just my oppinion, Ive been driving MT all my life. I have driven AT, but I found myself stepping on the brakes too hard because I missed the clutch.

It's a sports car and sports cars deserve manuals. Where I live the manuals outsell the autos. If it's a luxury car or grocery getter go with the auto.
However if you live in a large metropolitan area with tons of stop and go traffic I could see why the auto would suit more people.
As far as the ride goes I've only driven one auto and didn't really notice difference in the ride quality. In fact I would like the suspension in my 6mt even slightly more stiff like it seems to be in the '05 ( I haven't driven one yet)

I think the 05's downshift rev matching feature on the AT's are a nice touch.

But I still prefer a manual for cars that I only take out on the weekends. wonder if
Infiniti is going to introduce the V35-8's in the US... 8sp CVT. that might be pretty
cool.
