I picked up an automatic coupe last year and it had thrown a rod in the engine, so the price was appropriate . I found a 2005 automatic engine for it with a warranty, and it had some nice bolt ons like a throttle body, intake spacer, ingen intake filter stuff, headers and full exhaust was done on the car as well.

My question is what do I need with the 2005 variable intake and exhaust valve timed engine to work properly?

I don't know if they incorporated wiring harness or ecu tuning for the 2005 engine plans in 2004.

Someone who had been in my situation might know about this, so please chime in if you have done this engine swap before.

Best,

Hans

The automatics had the same engine 04 and 05. It’s the manuals that got the exhaust variable timing. You are good to go.

2005 and up switched to the wideband 02 sensors, right?

as far as I understand 04’s have the widebands, the 03’s just got stuck without them. Z1 has a table I need to find it

I have an '04 coupe and I know it doesn't have wideband; but mine was a very early build (10/03). Here's the chart from Z1. At worst the OP just has to swap sensors.
