04' G35 Coupe vs 05 Mustang GT

Lastnight I was leaving work when A new white 05' mustang GT (yes the V8) pulled up beside me at a light...Well at 1st I didn't think anything of this mustang (other then just checking it out) untill we made eye contact..This guy looks over and just says (out of the blue) "hey buddy, you wanna race!" and gives me a little Rev...At 1st I was just like WTF, who are you...but then I decided to take him up on his offer seeing that this was a good chance to see what the 05' GT's could do...

Well I ended up taking him to 1 of my favorite roads where there's no cars for miles, (especially at 3 am).. and the stang driver (who turned out to be pretty cool) asked where I wanted to run from...I said let's run out the hole..(I figured that would be my only chance if I get a better launch them him)

Dead stop, and he has a passenger who calls the start...I launched nicely, with very little wheelspin and jump into the lead by 1/2 a car right away...I heard some tire squealing from the mustang but not much...by the end of 1st gear I was up by about 3/4's a car...I grabed 2nd and just kept on slowely inching away...I hit 3rd gear now and I still have the momentum as im putting about 1 1/2-2 cars on him...into 4th I go and kept the steady pace away from him untill I shut it down at the end of 4th... where I had probaly a solid 2 car lengths on this mustang!!

I was pretty excited knowing the stangs are "supposed" to be faster then our G35's...and the fact that I am stock impressed me even more! I got to somewhat hear his shifts and they sounded pretty good and clean, but I dunno how great of a driver this guy was..??

But anyhow I'll take my victory's any way I can get them...and lastnight it just so happened to be the new 05 GT going down to a stock G35!!

That's two now that have gone down in the past two days. The Mustang is definitely the fast car, so I dunno - maybe none of these Mustang drivers know how to drive. They're probably all automatics too.

maybe as he continued to look at your car, he realized how awesome the g35 was and in turn sank his morale right before the run, which in turn caused him to be anxious resulting in a launch with too much wheelspin, and as you stretched his GT he realized he could not mentally put it together to beat ya.

I have a feeling those Mustang GT's are a slight bit "overrated"....looking forward to more stories like this one!

its funny you guys are comparing the 2, prior to getting my G i was all set to get an 05 mustang and then realized how much classier and nicer the G was, ive been stopped many of times by mustang owners asking me bout my car saying they are gettin rid of their mustang and getting a g35

I dunno what the deal is, but aside from the few street races here on this forum, the opposite seems to be true with the new Mustangs - they tend to be underrated in the power dept. Motor Trend dyno'd a stock '05 Mustang GT, because they were surprised at their car's fast 4.9 second 0-60 time, and sure enough, it dyno'd at 267 rwhp, which is about 314 hp at the flywheel, or 14hp more than the 300 rating.

You have to take the racing stories that you read here with a grain of salt.

Makes you wonder what goes on in the selection process of which 'stock' gt to send over to the magazines ..

I bet you will see oposite stories over in the Mustang forums. And considering that this story includes a passenger; that may have been a difference in teh outcome. Tehre is a video of a Mustang GT beating a 350Z pretty good at the drag strip.

I'll venture a guess that the Mustang driver didn't launch right and that's the reason he fell behind. Ther's no way a stock G35 can beat a stock Mustang with similar drivers.

Yes, he lost in the end, but if he shut it down at 60, and did just a 0-60 run, he would have won, and that shouldn't have happened is all I'm saying.
