Need help launching for 1/4 mile
Took my 6mt G coupe out to infinion raceway the other night. It was my first time running the 1/4, only got 2 runs in, my best a freakin 14.7! that with an injen intake/ exhaust and test pipes, i was pissed to find out how crappy of a driver i am. I ddint warm up my rubber in the water, and poped the clutch at about 3k both times, but couldnt really get traction. Shifting wasnt a problem, banged all gears out at redline witha quickness. im just confused, i see fools on the forums runing low 14s and even hgih 13s stock or with simple bolt ons like me. Anyways im sure my times will drop the more i go up there. but im open to any advice on launching the G, or some tips on running the 1/4. I left my sub box w/ 2 10's in the trunk because i thoguht the weight would help, true? My goal is to get into 13's this summer, help me make it happen, thanks

You're not really Burnout Boy, are you? J/K!
You should definitely take the sub out of the trunk. Less weight the better. And don't have a full tank of gas either if you can help it.
I was having some trouble lauching the car too. It's a tricky balance between slipping the clutch and the tires, but they are both very grabby. I'll leave the techniques to somebody else...
What tires do you have?

This may not be a popular comment, however that's never stopped me before. I'd suggest ditching the injen intake and giving it a whirl with the stock airbox. It would be interesting to see if that gained you a tenth of a second. I've never been a big believer of hiding an air intake behind a solid bumper, but that's just me.

Do not go over the bleach, you need not warm up your tires....it might actually hurt you unless you have drag radials.
I've only been once too with this car and I am stock and I got two runs in. My best was a 14.72 with a 2.302 60ft time. The 60ft time lets me know that i can do better than that stock. I should be able to get a 2.20 or better which might put me around 14.5, probably better once my car is fully broken in (only 900 miles when i went to track)
what was your 60ft time.............while your at it just post up your whole slip.
Also I launched at 2.5krpms and got a modest wheel chirp the first time and the second time i did the same but gave it more gas out of the hole and spun a little more.

More info, please
Hi Chuck,
Was your VDC on? How bad are your tires? Are you losing traction on your shifts? What MPH did you run?
It takes *practice* to get a perfect launch at the strip, where conditions don't always match those you're used to.
With practice and decent traction, you should be able to trim about a quarter second off of your 60', shaving 3-4 tenths off of the total time at the big end.
T&Tune nights are an inexpensive way to try out different launch techniques (unless you break parts, that is )

chicagox, my vdc was off, stock pilots are almost bald, just a chirp into 2nd, no spinage. it was a 14.7 @ 97.7mph.
klumzyee, so dont just drop the clutch off the start? slowly let it out? im pretty sure i know where your comming from, but when i shift into 2nd , i just drop that clutch and floor it, because alli get is a chirp, im not loosing time on that chirp am i? thanks again huys, i know practice makes perfect, just trying to get a lil pre practice. btw it was at infinion raceway in sonoma, used to be sears point, im not to sure of the altitude.

i ran 13.8@101 at sears point stock. ill be going up there in 2 weeks again
1) dont go threw the water
2) i drop down tires to 20 psi
3) if you have a 6 spped power brake it and then once you get them spinning good let go of the brake and just let the car spin em till you hook i do this many times and go threw the light then just back up
4) i take off like at 3800 rpms
good luck..

Please do NOT spin the tires "through the lights" as this is frowned upon at almost every track (unless you are John Force). At some of the stricter tracks, the second time you do this will result in ejection.
As the above poster stated, drive around the water box. Practice with different air pressures until best results are achieved, but I wouldn't go lower than about 20 psi on street tires.
Only change ONE thing per run (air pressure, launch technique, shift points) and you will be able to get a feel for what is working and what is not.
Try this: Rev your motor to about 3500-3800 and let up on the clutch until it starts to grab ever so slightly......when the last YELLOW is lit, lift up on the clutch at the same rate you 'roll' onto full throttle.
Your MPH tells me you have at least 14.2-14.3 potential. Good luck.
