I just ordered the ACT HDSS clutch to replace the OEM.
I'll do a write up once it is installed.

I've got the same problem. One of my friends said it was normal and he drives a stick 02 celica gts.
Unless it can be proven that the sound is a defect or something's grinding and scraping abnormally, I really could care less. It makes the ride feel a little more like a sports car and less like an old man's luxury coupe.

Has anybody since changed to an aftermarket clutch, etc. that eliminated the problem? I'd like to get a handle on a solution before my '05 arrives, in case it develops the same thing. My dealer will be 4 hours away so finding my own solution suddenly becomes more practical than making several wasted trips to the dealer.
Shouldn't this problem/issue be limited to the clutch/friction plate?

Guys,
I just had my car at the dealer for this and the tech thought that this noise is normal for the G35. They allowed me to drive another 2005 6MT which did indeed exhibit the same noise. I agreed with the tech that they shouldn't start tearing into the car, but I disagree that such an obnoxious noise is normal for a $35K car, especially since I've never heard this type of noise in a manual car regardless of price (but all less expensive aside from a Corvette). The 2004 6MT that I test drove prior to ordering the 2005 also didn't exhibit this noise. I plan on filing a complaint with Infiniti with regard to this issue and I would like your assistance in either doing the same, or taking the poll here:

Also, if anyone gets this resolved PLEASE shoot me a PM. Thanks!

lol what the hell? i dont know why you guys all bought this car if your upset with the ride quality.. the purpose of the clutch and shift *** is so the driver can feel the car and know what the car is doing without looking at gauges.. this was how the car was designed.. IMO if nissan didnt have a clutch like this they shouldnt have made manual an option for the G
The clutch is normal (i want to say this but not sure) go try to find some high performance clutch withOUT this sound..
also 05s have a different clutch the the 03-04s..

I've had a '79 Datsun 280Z (in '83), a '91 Mustang GT (bought new) and a '97 Mitsubishi GSX (bought new), all of which were manual and none of which had a chattering clutch or noisy TO bearing as part of their design. When saying this is normal, it's best to qualify that statement by saying this is normal for the G35. It would certainly decrease some of the bickering back and forth.
Likewise, normal for a light-weight flywheel or racing clutch can hardly be considered the norm among production cars with the OEM clutch assemblies. But that doesn't mean that it's not normal for the G35.
I'd still love to hear from people who have decided to chunk the OEM clutch bits in favor of aftermarket assemblies. Did it cure the problem? I'd find it hard to believe that the problem couldn't be fixed by replacing the offending part(s) with something better or more suitable. I'd like to try to isolate the problem parts and start working on a solution (if one is available) instead of living with the problem and complaining about it.
