G35 or STi...help
Guys please help, i'm moving in 2 months and want the new car before moving. I have been researching both cars for a while now. I am stuck between the 6mt or the STi. I know the 2 aren't really in the same category, the G being both sport and Luxury, and the STi being more sport and little luxury. My preforance is a car that is a good mix of both. Currently I drive a Celica GT with all the mods except a turbo. I love the looks and performance of the G, it just bugs me that spending 35k plus on a car to have an STi pull up next to you and smoke your ***. Like I said, I know the 2 aren't really in the same category, just wanted some other opinions to help me solidify my decision. Thanks....

you obviously know that the two are different. have you ever driven either? do that first.

clearly an sti is for you....If you own a G and want to smoke people....you go FI and aim for corvettes and 911's....(who cares about a subaru?)....If you can't afford to mod...you have no business racing....There will always be someone faster.

If you have sat in a STI, then you wouldn't even be asking about the luxury mix

Here we go again, Like I told the guy in the Used G35 vs. Used TL-S thread. Most everyone in here is going to be pro G35. Why do you think they bought the car why do you think they are here. Its insanity. Someone famous once said "insanity is the act of doing something the same way everytime and expecting a different outcome."

He said he wanted a luxury performance mix...obviously the STI does not have that!
I used to own a G35 and now drive an 05 STI. Awesome car. But, no matter what you purchase, unless it's a 911 turbo, you won't be completely satisfied imho. The G is a great car, but very popular and there are alot on the roads. But they hold there value well and look damn good. However, don't expect to enjoy winter driving. The STI is pure performance with some luxury, but nothing close to the G. Two different car markets. The STI is a rally car with a tremendous amount of power. And can be modded to to well over 400hp with a few bolt-ons. The STI's insurance will be very high though. My G's insurance was resonable. If you want a visceral car and a raw driving experience and the most respectable symmetrical all-wheel drive systems, get the STI. If you want the perfect balance of HP, style, and performance, get the G. Plus the G looks damn good with 19" rims and will turn heads no matter where you go. I think both the G and STI would make perfect 2nd cars ideally.

If you want pure speed and performance, make the check payable to Subaru. If a mix of performance and comfort is more important than speed alone, I would choose the G35c. You also need to ask yourself how often you're actually going to race someone unless you're going around looking for trouble.
Just some experience that I'd like to share (sorry it's long):
I had a highly modified '97 Mitsu. GSX. I would smoke new 'Vettes and anything else that challenged me... ...short of a crotch rocket. I was never defeated. Soon, my car's reputation as a severe ***-kicker was floating around town. Younger kids seemed to stare, wondering if this was the one they had heard about. Soon, my only stop-light challengers were older guys in cars that were much faster... ...than a stock GSX.
They look over and snub me and my little rice-burner... ...until I embarassed the hell out of them. 
But it was only those who were aware of the car's potential (through word-of mouth or from getting beat down personally) that seemed to have any respect or appreciation on their face when they'd glance over. I constantly found myself proving to others that the car deserved appreciation and respect. It got a little old.
When I sold it, I bought a 1955 Chevy Bel Air 2-door Hardtop with a 468ci big block. The number of stares, thumbs-up and otherwise approving looks (and smiles) was too much to keep track of. It was a constant thing. But with as mean as that thing sounded, the Mitsu. GSX would have trounced it!!!
So, to end this ramble, I'll now get to the point. What's more important to YOU? Would you prefer to impress a much smaller segment of the population and be a real contender, or would you prefer to simply have a much larger segment of that population appreciating your car on looks alone? The STi, while potent, is still a boy-racer that isn't very attractive. I still love it due to it's performance potential! On the other hand, the G35 is going to be appreciated by most people on the road, without ever having to dip into the throttle. Decide which is more important to you.
FWIW, I'm selling the '55 Chevy to get into an '05 G35. The G35 will never be as quick as the GSX and it will never get as much positive reaction as the '55, but it's a well-rounded car that encompasses some of the qualities as the other two. The respect and/or appreciation from others seems to lose significance over time, leaving you with only yourself to satisfy. I'll be in an 'average' car, but I anticipate enjoying this one much more than the other two.

Beating nearly any contender was a given... ...but the car was usually dismissed on looks alone. Still, if being on top, performance-wise, is your priority, then you already know that the G isn't the car for you.

I need to second the comment on the 954RR. I have the same bike and no matter what bike you have there is NO need to have a car that is fast cuz it will never compare. Once i got into ridding bikes i started to think what was the real reason of agressive speeding in a car. Oh well i'd go G over Subaru.

Sti is nice good handling, fast off line, cheap to mod it, but do you race everyday ? i asked myself the same thing before i bought g35, yes that car is fast but i dont race everyday, i've had a acura integra type-r before, it was a nice car, but everyday driving just pain in the aS@. on the race track that's a different story. for me STi and type-r are second car, you need to have something for dialy drive, those cars are just for weekend or track event. plus you better watch out theft issue with STi, that's another reason i didnt buy it.
I have driven both cars. STI is a very very fast car, lots of power. cool and aggresive looks. However, the interior is aweful. the seats are horrible, I drove an STI from chicago to toronto and my back ached.
the G35 on the other hand, power wise is not even close to STIs. however, g35 offers more luxury and comfort. it has leather seats, heated seats, cool interior and beautiful exterior too.
If you always race everyone everythime you drive then get the sti, chances are you're going to smoke almost every car on the road with an STI.
