when to change breaks?

Is it possible to visually see if the pads need to be changed without taking the wheels off? My wheels/breaks squeak a lot when I am not even pressing on the break and last time I went to the dealer, they said my breaks were fine.

One way is to stick a dental mirror inside of the tires to take a look at the brake pads through the port in the calipers.

And you might want to use the term BRAKES, not BREAKS.

when your brakes fade enough, it'll start making a metal on metal type of scratching sound

Do you have the brembo brakes or the OEM brakes that come with the 5AT?

In my experience brakes need replacing when they squeal while not being depressed (although sometimes they also squeal while being depressed). i highly recommend removing wheels to inspect as you cant possible get a decent view through the rims (esp since u have brembo's). not sure about the brembo's but most brakes start to squeal a tad before they have reached their end to prevent rotor damage. my car was squealing in the rain today as well, however that is normal at first when the rotors are cold and/or wet. Do they squeal in the dry as well?? I assume since the dealer stated your pads are fine then they are, unless its something else...

when u get it inspected they will tell you, but if u want to do it sooner, jack it up, take the wheel off, and see how much is left. if u have about 3 or 5 mm left, you might want to get them changed soon.

If they told you they are fine...they are. We will jump at every oppurtunity to sell brakes.
