Arrow The BEST AFTERMARKET CLUTCH????

NOOB HERE...I have 30K on my 03G35 6mt and need a new clutch ASAP, and theres NOWAY I'm going to let Infiniti install one of their crappy clutches for $1,500. Basically I want to find a clutch for the average driver but with a longer life span.

Has anyone here purchased an aftermarket clutch for their coupe? I've searched through the threads but havent really found anything. It would be great if we could start a thread (if one hasnt already been started) to list what clutches people have installed on their coupes along with their feedback or opinion of the clutch. Does the clutch cause chatter? Is it smooth? How well does your car perform with the new clutch?

The Intense Power site seems to have a few kits available. Right now Im looking at either the ACT Street Disc Heavy Duty Clutch Kit (NZ1HDSS) or the Clutchmasters FX200 Steel Back Heavy Duty Street Clutch Kit (CMC04-047-HDKV). I have listed a few other clutch manufacturers for our G's below, please add onto the list if you know of any others...I am also looking for a reputable place to do the install in SOCAL if anyone knows of a shop.

ACT
CLUTCH MASTERS
NISMO
JWT
CENTERFORCE
SPEC
TILTON
EVO

I've been doing a fair amount of looking into this as well.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

JWT has 1200kg clamping force, has replacable flywheel cover if the flywheel gets worn, has good performance gains, but makes some noise for most people. Not terribly expensive for the whole set up. Can be used with stock flywheel, but not necessarily recommended. Copper organic blend.

Nismo has 1030kg clamping force, is a copper organic blend, has a flywheel about 8 lbs lighter than stock and is about 1000$ for the entire set up. May be quieter than JWT since it is not as light.

ACT HDSS looks like a very good alternative. This is an updated version of the HD00. When I spoke with them they said it would take a bit more pedal effort than stock but that it was totally streetable. They will have a very light flywheel coming out in August. Cheap: as low as 416.00.

I'm not going to go into the Tiltons or carbon clutches.

For me, I think it will be a decision between the Nismo and the ACT. I'm not all that interested in the potential noise of the JWT. The Nismo is expensive and I'm not all that sure that it will be much better than stock since it is a Nissan part.

Good luck and please keep us informed. I have had the same limited success in getting complete answers to this question. It seems like everyone's opinion on what a clutch feels like/what it should feel like are so different that it is impossible to get a consensus.

IMO the clutches for the G35 coupes are weak, and YES there are other people who are having issues with their clutches as well. But it doesnt really matter what I think, because the clutch is considered a wear and tare part. Anyways its time for a new clutch (@ 30K) and theres no way Im going to let infiniti put in one of their OVER PRICED INSUFFICIENT clutches.

Eventually EVERYONE who owns a manual G35 will need to replace their clutch at one point in time. I am very surprised that there arent more threads about this topic. I will probably order a clutch by tomorrow, most likely the ACT. As soon as I get the clutch installed I'll be sure to post an update.

Please do update us on the ACT. That is on my short list of clutches to consider. The new ss version is supposed to be markedly better than the previous version.

I just ordered the ACT HDSS clutch.

I'll post a review once I get it installed.

I've been looking around for a shop to get prices on a clutch install, and my friend who has a Z said to check out this shop called OPERATION Z. To make a long story short, they checked out my stock clutch and said they said they've seen this problem before on the 350z (The clutch squeaks and gets tighter and LOUDER as the day goes on). They drove my car around the block and said that the clutch feels fine (NO SLIPPAGE). They are absolutely 100% sure that the problem I am having has something to do with the BUSHINGS or the MASTER CYLINDER. He said to have the dealership look at it because it should be under warantee. I laughed and said I tried that route but Infinit was NO HELP and they wanted to charge me $475 just to look at (Because the clutch is ware and tare, though the fee would be waived if something in the clutch kit was defective).

So I made another appointment with the dealership (NOT THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FIRST TIME). The mechanic at OPERATION Z said if Infinit gives me a hard time again then just bring the car back to his shop and he'll fix it for $200.

ROUND 2 WITH INFINITI...DING...DING!!!

I upgraded to the JWT clutch and Flywheel and I'm happy. Engine braking has never been better, but it def changed things at the drag strip. I'm still not used to the new clutch and my launches are terrible. If you're doing any road racing, I'd def rec this setup...it's a little loud at idle with the clutch pedal disengaged, but out of 10, I give this setup an OVERALL 8.
