Tire Question?

As we all know it is hard to find a matching set of tires for our G35 coupes. I have an 03 coupe with brembos and a 20k its time for new tires. My question is can I do 225/40/18 and 245/40/18 instead of the factory 45? Will this throw anything off and will it look funny with the lower sidewall? Also how about going 235/40/18 and 255/45/18 will that work? Any help would be appreciated!

thanks

255 is the widest you can go in the back on the stock 8" wide 18", or you can keep the 245/45/18. Most people run 245/40/18 up front, which tends to neutralize the understeer due to the stagger and is the closest match to the stock size.

I've been looking for the answer to the same question...thanks. In addition, what about tire brand? I believe the stock Pilot Sport tires are Infiniti spec and not as aggressive as the Pilot Sport's I've seen in other applications. The Michelins are available with the more aggressive tread pattern, but you would have to mix speed ratings, I think Z and Y according to Tire Rack.

I'm running 4 same size snows right now, but I can't remember the size (17's) The tires are Dunlop Winter Sport M3's by the way, and they were awsome over the winter. Running these tires has not thrown out my VDC or ABS at all..everything worked perfectly. I'd like to put the 255's on my rear tires but don't want any problems and don't wnat something that is too wide for the rim.

Your best bet is to run the stock size in the rear. As for tire choices, the stock tires are summer tires, not all-season. I'm not anywhere close to replacing mine yet, so I have no personal experience, but you might want to do a search on here on replacement tires and it will come up with tons of threads on the topic.

I've done a quick search on replacement tires and many people seem to like the 245/40/18 fr, and 255/45/18 rr. As I have dedicated snow tires, I want a summer only tire and have heard good things about the Goodyear GS D-3. The only other experience I've had with a high perf summer tire was with Continental Conti Sport 2 on my Audi. They handled very well...in fact I've always felt that the Audi found it's way around corners and on- ramps better than my G35 6-speed. I have never liked my stock Michelin Pilot Sports and think they might be the culprit.
