Long haul truckin'
Long haul truckin'
Just returned from a very enjoyable Colorado to California trip and thought I’d share some observations/thoughts.
Total miles driven was 2700. Gas prices for premium varied from $1.44 to $2.05, octane from 90 to 93. Average gas mileage for the trip was 22.7 mpg, the Nav display generally showed about 1.5 mpg better than actual. Most of the interstate highway driving was done on cruise control, in the 5AT turning 3 grand gets you 85mph (4grand gets 110mph, but I didn’t have cruise on for that).
Biggest positives: Nav system was phenomenal and indispensable for finding hotels, restaurants, etc. The information available and accuracy is unbelievable. The seats were very comfortable, absolutely no complaints. The cargo room was very adequate. I’m a light traveler (regular suitcase, golf clubs), my wife is not (very large suitcase, 6 pairs of shoes, large makeup case, large purse or two), but with the back seat down we had room to spare. The engine hp/torque causes you to barely notice elevation changes whether it be rolling hills or 8000 foot passes, also no matter what speed there’s plenty of juice left.
Best stretch of road: Went for 75-100 miles on CA-1 north into Carmel. Shifted to manumatic and ate up the curves, 18 inch tires were like riding on a rail.
For the whole trip saw several sedans, but only one other coupe.

Re: Long haul truckin'
Good info. I'm making a Texas to Arizona trip next week and am anxious to see how it does on open stretches as well as on the Coronado Trail heading up into the White Mountains. Should be some spectacular cornering opportunities.

Thanks for sharing bro. I'd like to make that trip myself sometime. Glad the navi was so helpful. I find mine very helpful and interesting too. Mileage is about what I would get on the hwy at that speed.

Take I-17 North to 179 (Sedona cutoff) and follow that to 89A. Take 89A North (Oak Creek Cayon) to Flagstaff and come back down !-17 to Phoenix. Great ride on two wheels or four.
