Hey guys,

Just wondering if people use other alternatives vs. the dealerships out there... any reputable places that I should go to? Don't want to deal w/ any warranty issues... I hear something like if you don't get your oil changed by the dealerships that you run a chance of voiding warranties? Any insight?

No they don't void warranties, though it is nice having proof of self changes (just in case they pull some $hit).

to my understanding, having oil changes done outside of the dealerships means you are not showing "goodwill" to that dealership, and as a result that dealership may be less inclined to treat you like a loyal customer, which means you could pay higher prices on non-warranty work, or worse yet, get screwed when it comes down to an "iffy" service problem that could have been considered warranty work.

 

Do your own oil changes! It is simple, cheap, and you can assure a job done right. I've had dealers over fill, under fill, and forget to tighten the drain plug. No thanks, I'll take the time to do my own oil changes so that I can clean everything, torque everything correctly, and fill the engine correctly without rushing to get customers through.

I do my own oil change also. Family owns a mechanic shop so I just write myself a reciept. Its really nothing to it as long as you keep your reciept and write the milage on it you should be ok. Dealership too high priced. they say you are paying for their courtesy or some bull **** like that. wont void your warranty as long as keep notes of maintanance. if they try to void warranty then give them hell they will eventually bend. happed to me with toyota dealership already

 

I would normally do the oil change on my own, (preferred) but the dealership does it for $30. They use a nissan filter and mobil one. That's at least $20 worth in materials. I know maybe you could do it a little cheaper, but I'm one cheap sob...that said. the clearance issues and being able to reach the filter and oil plug is tough. If they through in the car wash then it's damn worth it.

Without service records, the only warranty issue is if the engine has a failure. In that case if you have no record of service with infiniti, you will need to show proof of service with recipts from jiffy lube or wherever.

 

There's a BIG O TIRES near my place that will do a LOFR (lube, oil, filter, rotation) for 19.99... anybody have any knowledge on these guys?

 

I do my own changes, propperly record mileage and service, as well as staple in trhe reciept for the supplies. Even if a dealer or infiniti were going to try and run a gam on me, they haven't leg to stand oin legally.

Besides, it is not worth to them to lose a customer.

 

I do my own as well. Just did one today. I write down the mileage on the receipt of supplies and keep them in the leather case for the manual. If you are actually performing maintenance at the scheduled intervals, I think the courts would be on your side should the purchases be verifiable and mileage ane time intervals are reasonably consistent. And if you pay with a credit card, you can show that each purchase was actually made by you.

While cost is one reason I do my own oil changes, It also gives me a chance to poke my nose around and see if there is anything else wrong witht eh car. I just found the inboard side of my left front rotor has grooves being left by the pad. I will be calling the dealer tomorrow as they recently did some brake work under warranty and didn't try to resolve this before it became a problem.

 

I still take the easy route and go to the Infiniti dealer. Not a big deal. I don't trust the jiffy places because of the underbody aero diffuser. I figure they won't put all the bolts back.
