Couple questions about the 5AT

If i put it into "manual" mode and I shift up a couple hundered before redline is this bad or hard on the tranny? (it never touches redline)

Also if i use downshifting w/breaking and i keep the RPMs below redline at all time is this bad or hard on the tranny?

I think I read that the AT does Rev Matching so is there anything i have to worry about besides keeping it out of redline? Also how sensitive are the tranny/engines to actually going into redline for a brief second?

Thanks

With a 5AT the transmission should be fine if you have been keeping it anywhere below redline...even for a second in redline it should be okay, of course there's a reason why redline exists (redline = not good for engine ) So I wouldn't rev it up all the time...I know I know, it's hard to resist, haha

Shouldn't hurt anything, it was designed to handle it.

The tranny isn't really designed to slow down your car. It will most likely cause unnecessary wear on your transmission and engine. I wouldn't recommend doing that as a regular habit. Use the brakes, that's what they are for. Why would you want to use metal against metal friction to slow down your car. Now if you were doing autoX you may may want to downshift into a corner, but that's to prepare you for coming out of the corner, not to slow you down.

I think I read that the AT does Rev Matching so is there anything i have to worry about besides keeping it out of redline? Also how sensitive are the tranny/engines to actually going into redline for a brief second?
The '05s have rev matching, I have an '04 so I don't really have any experience with it. Hitting the rev limiter is a little startling the first time that you do it. It is however a designed safety measure to protect the car so if you do hit it you'll be fine. Don't make a habit of it though.

Yeah its fine on the tranny. Even if you "did" get into some of the redzone its allright. Car manufacturers often put the actual redzone on the speedometer a little lower than the actual point in where engine damage could occur just to be safe. Or atleast this is what I have been told by some mechanics.

Nothing will happen. The car will hit the rev limiter and automatically keep the RPMs lower than that. Its bad to hit the rev limiter because it slows you down. If you're racing, for example, and you dont shift in time and hit the rev limiter, the limiter basically stops putting gas into the engine, so it kind of stalls out for a second, in a overly simplified explanation.

Of course, if you just keep running at redline and bouncing off the rev limiter for an extended period of time, it could damage the engine. Just use common sense
