READ!! Squeeking Brakes.

Someone pls confirm this.. the squeeking noise is so called NORMAL for brembos is what i heard... I finally got tired of the noise and had my car checked... I read in the past people saying that dealerships say it's normal.. Well after checking my brakes they said i need New rotors and pads... and i mention the clicking noise and they said they will order a new set of a brake kit which will expand and not make the clicking noise.. well back to wat i was saying i ask if it was under warranty they said NO because it's a wear and tear type of problem and they are asking $700+ for pads and rotors... Any comments before I let them do this...? Sorry if i confuse u guys with this story but it's just depressing knowing this is a 40,000 car...

well, like audi and mercedez, these cars are designed to "break" or "wear out" or they will need to be serviced. thats just how they are designed, its supose to be like that.

Yeah, I've got a couple of comments. Join a local G35 club. Talk with their Dealership sponsors. Some give a 10% discount on parts and service. Some sell cross-drilled and/or slotted brembo rotors. Price seems a little high for just OEM parts. Heck Everything G35 sells the complete front and rear brembo aftermarket kit (rotors AND pads) for $999 and labor is not supposed to be very difficult. I've even read that they can be found cheaper elsewhere but you'll have to do your own leg work here.

How about a few more details...

1. Where do you live? (your screen name seems familiar)
2. Current Miles?
3. Are they quoting you fronts only? Labor included?
4. How much pad is left? (give answer in inches or mm's)
5. Did you bed the brakes?
6. Are you on the wear sensors?

Most don't understand [prior to purchase] the wear and tear costs of even quasi performance cars........brakes and tires [and the maintenance associated with those components].
I won't even go into suspension [rubber bushings and shocks] most things last thru the 4 year 60k warranty.

the clicking noise is not the brakes. there is a TSB out for this that involves replacing the sides of the axles that click.

noise from the brembos is relatively normal, but it depends on the noise. it should usually be pretty quiet, especially when the brakes are clean.

As far as needing new pads goes, if the noise you're hearing is the low pad indicator then yes that means you need new pads. As far as new rotors go, i would ask to see them measure my rotors and then compare it to factory spec. Rotors shouldnt wear that quickly on brembos I dont think.

On the noise issue though, apparently its a disadvantage of some brembo brake systems with outboard and inboard pistons. On the E60 M5 forums, where they do NOT have brakes like this, they were complaining about the brakes they have and someone in a thread there mentioned that one reason why BMW may have done it was for the noise issue, among other things.

They will cut the rotors if they can. It costs the customer less and we get paid more. If at all possible we try to save the rotors so we dont have to try and sell new ones.
