I'm no expert on these things, but when Nissan introduced the 350Z they marketed the heritage of the Z, but took a different route with the G. The skyline has a history, maybe not in america but in other countries.. I think this is why they came out with the special edition of the R34 GTR, to create an awareness of things to come.

When the "GTR" comes out I'm sure it will be an Infiniti, but ideally it would appeal to me more as a Nissan, its just the Nissan service that would work my last damn nerve.

man....

90% of u dont have a clue what u are talking about.

the next GTR is gonna be based on the V36 Skyline(its too late to release the V35), which is the 07 G35

the next GTR will not wear the Skyline badge anywhere outside of Japan.
i still think its better to market the GTR as an Infiniti, and make the car more upscale.

I agree Hyde. First off bring it over and calling it a Skyline just doesn't make sense. Sure your dealership guy may have told you that, but I have yet to meet anyone (besides maybe the service mechanics) at an Infiniti or Nissan dealership that knew more about the cars or the company then I did!! Those guys are all clueless. They spread baseless rumors worse then high school girls, just to make it sound like they know something.

I cannot see Nissan making such a large mistake as to try and market a virtually unheard of vehicle in the US, for $50K or more. That's just plain stupid. It'd be EXACTLY like Toyota selling the SC430 as a Toyota Solara GT-S, for the same price it sells for now. See my point!?!?!

all this talk about keeping the tradition and heritage of the skyline makes NO sense to me. first off, what tradition and/or heritage of the skyline in north america?!?!? only true car enthusiasts know of the nissan skyline in america. the skyline was never sold here before. secondly, the infiniti badge only exists in north america. therefore, everywhere else, it would still be a nissan. like what has been already said, if they sell it under the nissan name, they will have to reduce to price of the car because NO ONE will buy a nissan for $60K+ when you can get a porsche or m3 (fairly loaded) for the same price. if not, it will fail miserably.

also, i would never quote what the dealer said.

Just keep in mind that the supra was a failure because it had a high price tag for a toyota. Nissan should know that its the wrong move to make the GT-R a nissan. It also wouldnt make any sense for nissan north america to have a car with a 50k+ pricetag. They already have the Z for a sports car and have no need for another one. To boost the infiniti name, the GT-R should be an infiniti. Almost every person living in the US does not know what a nissan skyline GT-R is. Only car enthusiasts as well as people who watched the fast and the furious know what a GT-R is. The GT-R can exist everywhere else in the world as a nissan, but to sell it here, it has to be an infiniti.

Its funny how those dealership guys said they are bringing the skyline over here. Do they know at all that the G35 is the current nissan skyline? Is it really that hard to accept that our g35 IS the skyline? Those guys probably dont have a clue..

60,000 can be a fair price. A E46 M3 with the performance pack (19in wheels, tighter suspension, track mode, etc) is about 57 bare bones, and 64 fully loaded (if you don't get the smg). When the E90 M3 comes with it's V8 pushing over 400+ hp, it will be priced about mid 70's. If the Skyline is built right, this becomes it's competitor. Currently in this market category, IMO, is BMW and Infinity(Nissan). If they want to compete with the sport luxury that the M3 has, they will have to badge it as Infiniti, and mark the price up 5 or 6 thousand. Thereby making it about 60-65 and the M3 about 75-80.

Also, people were talking about heritage. The M3 has much more North American heritage and is likely to bring more money. Heck a E30 M3 pulls more money that E36 M3's.

This is not just about our market. This is a global offering. Bringing up the heritage is a smart move, especially with so many GT-Rs being used as racing vehicles. It isn't hard for marketing teams to create a history for a product and sell it to America's general public.

And as previously mentioned, unless it's on www.nissannews.com it isn't fact, it's speculation. Anyone trusting magazines and salesmen at this point is buying into fiction, not reality.

I think it will be an Infiniti for a reason none of you guys pointed out. LEXUS. Yes they are making a car that is supposed to be ferrari fast. While G35 and other Infinitis are selling better than Lexus, they might find it threatening to have Lexus release a good supercar while they release their supercar as a Nissan.

Anyway, the dumbest part is that once it comes out as an Infiniti, people buying it will rebadge to a Nissan as they did with the G35 (which, I am sorry, but I find dumb).

2nd post: No nothing concrete but here's one small indicator from the article I posted:

"The decision is not made," said Carlos Tavares, Nissan's vice president for the product strategy and product planning division. But he added, "If we don't change the specific target customer" for the Skyline GT-R, "it will be a Nissan."

My guess is that if the target audience is "NISSAN" not "INFINITI" then the price could potentially be cheaper then if the GTR were to come badged as infiniti. Again nothing solid to go by till 2006 Tokyo Auto Salon when its all unveiled.
Which is it? Your first post mentions Autoweek as "concrete" evidence and then mention in your second post "no nothing concrete." That Autoweek article has not confirmed anything.

At this point, it's all speculation as to what the next GT-R will look like, regardless of whether it's badged a Nissan or Infiniti.

Here's another rendition of what it may look like:

This whole thread is based on speculations guys, but if I am to follow suit...
Did you know that both Infiniti and Lexus will become brands in Japan starting next year, actually Lexus this summer (this is a fact though)?
Skyline GTR's target market is and has been Japan (competition within) and it's focus is not the luxury segment, as Infiniti brand represent.
Well, both Infiniti and Nissan dealers will exist in Japan next year, I believe that GTR will remain as Nissan as has been since the days of "HAKOSUKA" and if Nissan group decide to bring it to NA, trust be under Nissan. But who knows until it happens.
