Question HELP: Dash Paint Interior

Guys,

I have a 04 coupe DG with grey interior. The paint (grey metalic) on the part where the instrument panel is located has rubbed off. This was due to my Radar detector power wire which was resting against the side of the instrument panel "pod". The wire goes from the detector to my cig lighter. I can't believe it has rubbed the paint off. It is barely touching the panel and the wire does not move at all. Is there touch up paint? Has anyone else had issues with that paint rubbing off?

Many thanks in advance.

I have TB 6MT w\Graphite interior and have the same problem; the paint hasn't rubbed off but I was cleaning the dash and noticed the wire had rubbed a noticable shiny spot there... I've been rubbing it when I clean and its getting less noticable; I'm glad I saw it in time or it would have rubbed through.

My buddy at V&V paint and body said he could mask it off, spay some paint on there, sand alittle and it would be like new... I'm gonna' leave it like it is for now, no one notices but me.

I wish I had more to add that would help but I do not, so I am qurious to see what kind of replies this thread will get.

If I remember the parts in 03/04 were plastic - painted, you might want to call a dealer and see if they have touch up.

Another option is to gets the pieces for an '05 which are actually brushed aluminum.
I think they are the same (Don't take my word, please check before spending money) I don't know how much they cost, or how hoard to install - some of the guys that have done the Double DIN kit should be able to answer the insall part.

That part in the 05 is also plastic; the same exact plastic.

just a thought, and I could be wrong, but I would bet that the problem is not from the wire moving and rubbing, but rather from the sun heating the black cord and the heat from the cord "burning" the plastic.....just a guess tho....sucks, I have my cord in the exact same spot, and I'm in TX....100+ in the summer....time to bury the wire...

Htownbot - no the part (surface anyway) is not plaastic in the 05, it is brushed aluminum. Aside from it being printed, and the fact that I verified in my car, i have seen the 03/04 they don't even look the same.

The issue with my car is not the metal like part but rather the part around the speedo... you know the outter part of the whole pod that moves up and and down when you tilt the wheel.

There is a site somewhere online that sells the exact color for the
graphite interior of the car. Try doing a google search for "Leather dye Infiniti" or something of that nature.

Smile Satisfaction!!!

Just to let you guys know Infiniti via the warranty has agreed to repaint that area of the "pod" dashboard. The dealership has a guy that comes in once a week to "fix" used car interiors as needed. I am going to buy a new power cord for my radar detector and also move it so that the cord does not touch the outside of the instrument pod. Many thanks in advance to all those who offered opinions!!!!

You must be talking about the center stack.

wow... I can't believe there is that much confusion about this!!!! OK... here we go.... look at dash... see speedo and tach and gas and stuff... now that is the pod that moves up and down when you tilt... now... that whole thing is painted on outside... not the center stack...not where clock is.. hope that helps

Update On Dashboard Pod Paint Process

Update: I dropped call off at dealership and the vendor who paints/fixes interiors came by and said he can not do it because it has a metalic finish Does anyone know where I can get the paint for the outside finish on the dash pod or give me some ideas on how to fix the problem. If you read my original post you can read about the issue I am referring to.

Just a note: I saw the 05 coupes at dealership and it appears that on the 05's the outside part of the dashboard pod is not same as the 04/03 models.

Thanks in advance.
