Well, theyre going to cut you a check no matter what for whatever amount their adjuster deems is resonable, including labor, parts, and rental. At least they did for me. Just show them the website, explain to them the kit can only be bought as a complete kit.. they have to do whatever it takes to restore the car to pre-accident condition so.. so they may just have to pay for the entire kit.

yes...it's just like when there's a side step on pickup that's damaged...those are sold only in pairs....ins. companies pay for the pair....also, the "euro" or "altezza" tail lamps, sold only in pairs, they pay for the pair....the running boards on conversion vans and suburbans, even some trucks...same thing...pairs only...if that's the only way to get the bumper, then they'll have to pay for it....

Today is your lucky day. About 2 years ago I had an Ortho product (Ortho Rose Pride Funginex) sitting on a shelf in my garage.

Long story short... the product was not supposed to be stored in tempertures above "X" but did not list this on the bottle. One extremely hot summer day the fungicide turned into Hydrachloric Acid Gas, ate through the plastic bottle and spilled out onto my cheap ADR Riccochet wheels on my old Accord. It ate the chrome, nickel and copper plating off of my wheels, ate the garage floor covering, ate through the plastic hedge trimmers I had stored on a shelf below and it ate through a few other items too. After many phone calls and me being smart enough to request that they fax out the MSDS info, I was sent to an arbitrator. (Can you imagine how frustrated I was when the lady on the phone told me "80 year old ladies put this product on their Roses, it couldn't have possible eaten chrome off of your wheels sir". )

I ended up finding out that I could only buy the set of 4 new wheels WITH TIRES! Ortho made me sign a few forms and they mailed me a check covering EVERYTHING that was damaged. Of course I had to send photos and a video explaining the damage, but so what. I made out very well.

Moral of the story, you'll buy the enitre kit, use the rear bumper and then sell the rest of the body kit and make most of your money back. AND IT'S ALL 100% LEGAL!

imho, the bumper will be easily fixed but i question the durability of the bumper post-repair. all the cracks can be patched from the inside, bondo'ed, sanded down, whatever is necessary to conform with the original form, however the structural rigidy of the bumper will be sacrificed.

sorry to hear of your incident... hope this problem will be fixed in your favor.

the joys of fiberglass. say no to overpriced fragile fiberglass kits!

i bet if it was urethane, it would've just scratched the bumper, not crack it in 10 different places.

The other thing is, go with one of their "Service First" shops....those are shops that are on a direct billing system with St.Farm and the service writer does the job of the adjuster as far as estimating goes....also, a service first shop will give you a lifetime warranty on the repairs, paint included....You might take with you a couple printouts of a couple diff websites where the shop can buy the bumper you had on your car....don't forget your rental when talking with St.Farm too....they will pay for that as well.....a little annoying, but it can be as painless as possible with St.Farm....good luck...and those were great photos of the damage, btw...
Awesome post.

Sucks more for the other guy. Hes going to either have to pay out of pocket, or envolve insurance and pay his deductable, and have his rates go up.

Thats a myth about urethane, it would have broke as well in that collision. It would be a lot harder to repair too.

Urethane would have just chipped. I got hit once pretty hard with my urethane kit on my accord and it survived the hit well minus the paint. Urethane is the only type of ground effects I'd use personally. I'd never put on fiberglass no matter how good it looks...
