Question HOW TO: Removing the child safety anchor

Did a search that returned a few results concerning this topic, but didn't get a specific answer.

I would like to place the XM wart antenna in place of one of the child safety anchors. My question is: how do I gain access to the lower nut (the one that's on the inside/under the rear parcel shelf)? If I open the trunk, the ceiling of the trunk appears to be held by plastic clips, but even after removing all of them the ceiling still won't drop - as if it's glued or something....

Please help...

TIA.

I believe that nut is welded in place.
I just removed the bolt and bracket and stuck some velcro to the bottom of the antenna and stuck it to the material that covers the rear deck.
2 years now and it has not moved.

You mean you just removed the upper bolt? in that case, what tool did you use? Isn't it kind'a hard getting to? I mean that anchor sits right on top of it. I don't think I have a tool that I can squeeze in there to reach the bolt...

Its a lot easier than it looks. Snap off the cover and unbolt it... The larger cover is NOT part of the deck you can snap it off.

1. Pull off the anchor access.
2. Snap off the larger cover. (You have to press in the sides and wiggle it a little)
3. Now the bolt is out in the open and you can unscrew it easy.

I will jump ahead.. to fishing the wire.. There is a decent about of space below the anchor, but I could not find easy trunk access through the car frame. The easiest way I found was to fish the wire below the deck and around the front of the deck and then through the trunk access opening. If you put it behind the rubber bumper you can't see the wire. Once you have the wire in the trunk you can easily fish the wire through the lining to the box. You don't need to remove any of the lining.

I also added an 18ga metal plate below the antenna to improve reception. I haven't had any drops beyond sitting under an overpass or something.

Cool, I thought the back part of the anchor cover is removable, I tried to wiggle it, but I guess I didn't do it correctly.
Now to my last question: what is a 18ga metal plate, and where do I get it?

Thanks.

I got mine from a friend.. All it is a peice of sheet metal. You should be able to buy small sheets of it at your local hardware store. You could also find some cheap metal object and cut it; just make sure its steel and not aluminum. I used 18 gage (thinkness), but I don't think the thinkness matters that much. You can paint it and then you cut it to fit nicely on the deck under the antenna. Ideally I suppose you can bolt down the metal plate to the old child anchor hole, but I've been to lazy...

When I did this, I just took the bolt out, took the spacer off of the bolt, and then put the bolt back in. I screwed the bolt down so that it was level with the rear shelf, and placed the antenna on top of the bolt. Fits perfectly inside the anchor, on top of the bolt.
