Is no test drive for coupe standard SF Bay Policy
Today I was told a Peninsula Infiniti in Redwood City that they don’t give test drives on the G35 coupe. Is this unique to Peninsula Infiniti, or do all the San Franciscan Bay area Infiniti dealers refuse to give test drives on the coupe?
I am trying to decide between the coupe and sedan and the decision is down to how stiff the coupe ride is. I have been driving an Acura Legend coupe for 7 years that has a fairly soft suspension. I really want to coupe, but not if I am going to be uncomfortable driving it commuting on the freeway (75 % freeway driving).
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Is no test drive for coupe standard SF Bay Policy
The only reason they won't let you test drive it is if there is no cars on the lot that aren't already sold. And usually all the 6MTs are sold waiting to be picked up.
I got mine at Pleasanton Infiniti, and just told the salesman to give me a call as soon as an unsold 6MT showed up. After a month, I got a call and took a nice test ride in it.

I live in Richmond, Va. but bought my car in D.C. When I went up there they would only let me test drive a 5 A/T, they said nobody was aloud to test drive the 6 M/T's........I don't understand, it's called........get some insurance! I can't believe they want people to spend 40K and not even get a test drive............oh well, listen to me...I still drove off the lot with a new one....hehe
Re: Is no test drive for coupe standard SF Bay Policy
I don’t understand why some Infiniti dealers don’t keep at least one G35C MT and one G35C AT as demo cars. All they are doing is making people shop elsewhere and they would be losing money and losing potential customers for their dealership.
I personally would NOT buy a brand new car without test driving it and I certainly would NOT buy from that Infiniti dealership if they wouldn’t let me test drive the car.

thats not true guys, I test drove a 6MT before buying...there were actually 2 of them on the lot. A red one and a black one.
I live in Michigan, our dealership gets 2-3 coupes 6mt per month only. It all depends on when you go test drive, they probably didnt have any on their lot at the moment. Try going to another dealership. Im sure San Fran has at least 3 within 20 minutes drive.
Good luck.

Could be true for your area; it is for mine. Stupid, totally ticks me off. Went 60 and 110 miles, respectively, to drive two different 6mt coupes at diff dealers. One dealer stunk; never went back. One was great; bought my car there and referred others to them.
Real reason is lack of supply; many/almost all coupes coming in are spoken for---that is, deposit down and person like me waiting for it. That said, I don't want some turkey (not you, of course) driving my car, b--ls to the walls, flat out, with ten miles on the odo. It'd be tuff to take one out of potential sale and keep it as a demo, but they (the dealers) could do it.
The three dealers around and near me were not so smart AND they had a policy that until you sat down and did the paperwork, no test. I said, "nuts", and walked out. The big deal for me and for their wallets is, I'll drive the extra miles and give my service to the other dealer, 60 miles away! And that'll hurt more than losing my purchase. You should do it, too.
Good luck. Find a good dealer or call Arnold at Riverside Infiniti or really go the extra mile and call the guy at Grubbs in Dallas. Or you can call my dealer in Mission Viejo (Orange County) Infiniti. All of them are good, and the first two are written about on this and the other two forums I read re the G35. Your call.

Jime, I walked onto the lot at Cerritos Infiniti and the let me drive a 6MT witin 10 minutes of being there. All they asked me was did I know how to drive stick really good and whether or not I was serious about the car. I told them "Look man how am I supposed to get serious about the car if I don't drive it. Maybe I'll just go across the street and try the 350z." I gave him my license and had the keys in my hands 10 minutes later. The differance was I think that they had 3 6MT's in stock as well as 4 5AT's. They carry quite a large volume of G35's. That may have had an effect on whom they let drive them. I notice now since have been back that there never more than two and never any 6MT's. Another reason may just be that there are less of them than the 5AT. But, I would never buy a car, EVER without driving it first. Plain and simple. c ya.

I got my 6MT from Infiniti of Baton Rouge, but when I initially approached them about it they were like "we'd love to let you drive one, but we don't own any." Pre-orders all...luckily for me, someone's financing fell through and I got my hands on one...
Big *** car note later, I own one.

In Chicago there are no 6mt's. Special order only so I ordered mine a month ago and the deposit is refundable so if for some completely odd reason I drive it (delivery scheduled in August) and don't like it.....I get my deposit back. I want to wait until my car comes in if there is a car to test drive before then. I am saving my virGinity for my own special one!
Re: Is no test drive for coupe standard SF Bay Policy
My local dealer sells both Jaguar and Infiniti, and strangely enough, my car buying decision came down to a Jaguar X-Type or Infiniti G35 Coupe.
I was able to test drive the Jag no problem (plenty of 'em on the lot), but they couldn't offer me a test drive on the Coupe - because they didn't have any.
The salesman explained that about the only way I could test drive one was to put down a deposit - in essence, buy one before test driving it. Since the deposit was completely refundable (no risk), I figured it was worth a shot, and if I liked it after the test drive (as if there was a question), it'd be there in stock, and I'd be taking delivery a day later.
Well, that's exactly what happened, and I was fine with it. Heck, the 6MT is in serious demand... I didn't mind going through a bit of runaround to get into one.

Re: Is no test drive for coupe standard SF Bay Policy
In Central Florida and the dealer here had a 5AT and 6MT and both were for test driving only; no way I would buy a car without test driving it first.
Re: Is no test drive for coupe standard SF Bay Policy
