New 'G' owner..have an issue with the TRANNY!

I have the new G35 6 speed.

Is it supposed to be so crunchy? I thought these nice high end cars had really smooth shifting tranny's... but mine is really grindy. Especially from 1st to second.. its like I have to go through a 'gate' to get into 2nd.

PLEASE HELP!!

I have the same problem. Mostly from 1st to 2nd, and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd. It's as if it's almost griding, clicking or there's some obstruction sometimes. Can't hear the grind, but I can feel it through the stick. Seems to have lessened recently though. I only have 600 miles on the car.

Take it back to the dealership and complain.

I've read some others w/this same issue, although I personally don't have any experience with it.

Take it back for service. Also, test drive some others on the lot if they give you crap!

Good luck.

Perhaps it will free up after the car's been driven for a couple thousand miles? My tranny in my WRX did.

It's a direct linkage tranny, which tend to be a bit notchy compared to the rubbery feel of a cable shift tranny common in FWD cars. So if you're coming from a Honda or some other FWD car, this shift feel will definitely be much different for you.

i agree... the notchiness is normal. want a smooth rubbery feeling? get yourself a cavalier.

It will smoothen out over time. Also, you need to make sure you clutch-in
all the way to the floor when you enter the gates.

You will get use to the timing too. It has a very small window for its ideal
clutch-in, shift-up timing, but I can tell you that my shifts have been very
smooth.

^^ agreed. on my car, the shifts tend to smooth out significantly once the car has been fully warmed up and driven for approx 10 mins or more.

I had this issue too; it's a driver issue... I've adapted to the car now...

Its like this;
Sometimes I was shifting a little too slow: you need to shift very freakin' fast from 1st. to 2nd when running hard because the rev's drop quick if you don't and the sync don't match well; this causes the notchy feeling or even grinding if rev's drop too much; the rev's drop very fast; a fraction of a second!

Sometimes I was not pushing the clutch far enough between 1st & 2nd and even though I was now shifting faster, I would still get that notch feel...

I can shift it perfectly every dang time now! Yeah; every dang time; so I know it was a driver issue!!!

Also; the tranny will be notchy when cold always and takes much longer to warm up than the 5AT so keep that in mind; warm it up well before you go for that hard run.

Forgot something... Even when not running hard; you will need to push the clutch farther down between 1st & 2nd... I've driven 3 6MT Coupe's and they all behaved this way... Also; notice how much smoother it shifts after it warms up.

I really dont think it has anything to do with me.. that clutch pedal hits the floor everytime. Even when I am sitting at a red light.. and I throw the shifter from 1st to 2nd and back to 1st.. it just gets stuck. Its like it cant find the gear or something is obtsructing it. I think I might just take it back to get it on record that this is happening now.. at 900K... so later on.. if something goes to ****.. I will have proof it had nothing to do with me.

i read one of the 350z guys having the same problem and he replaced the tranny fluid. i have 18k miles and my 2nd gear still has that gate. i can live with it, but rather have it smooth if it can be done.
