Possible Price Increase May 1?

I read a post on freshalloy.com that mentioned a possible price increase on May 1 for the coupe. The post was apparently by a salesperson from Grubbs. Has anyone else heard this might be happening?

Read the same thread.

The guy who made it is a good guy (Dan) - ex-Navy guy as a matter of fact.

In short - he wouldn't say it if he didn't believe it to be true. He's in the business and hasn't led readers over there astray so far.

price increase may 1st?

I have a new coupe arriving this friday, and was told that indeed there is a 1.5% price increase may 1st on coupes.

In order to get my car by friday, i had to cough up an extra 400 to have it shipped here from another dealer out of state, otherwise wait until july/august like the regular new order process.

I want to know if this is just a high pressure sales tactic to get me to pay the 400 now and get the car bought before may 1st?

1.5% increase > $400 shipping......so it makes sense to buy now if true.....

any help would be appreciated as I wind down the stretch to my new car!

It would be easier to deal with if there were incentives coming down the pipe. I'd assume any incentives wouldn't arrive until the end of the model year though...

Assume this is the post you are mentioning?

That's BS man don't get suckered into that sales pitch. Every new batch of cars that is oredered by the dealer has a price increace. If that car your buying is already in another dealer that means that car is an old stock hence keeping the old price. Dealers will only increase the price of a car when the new batch of cars comes in.

Well, apparently the car they are trucking over has never touched the ground. they just intercepted one that was to be delivered to another dealer somewhere in the midwest.

I do have one on order scheduled to come in july time frame. But this new news is telling me that I can either pay 400 to cover shipping costs (as they have to swap cars to get this here now), or, wait until july and pay 1.5% more for the car i already have on order. they never mentioned to me that if my name is 'attached' to the july order, i'm locked into the march price when i ordered. obviously they want me to buy it by end of this month....

I would love to get the car 3 months earlier, but want to know how legit this price increase is....

If you're already locked in a price from March then you don't have anything to worry about. It doesn't matter where the car is if it's in US soil that means there is already a price for it.

Why exactly do they increase the prize, is it because revisions were made to the ones comming or is it just to cover shipping charges? (Or something else?)

Because we all know that the 04's got revized after May/June to have some rattles factory fixed and other stuff too.

This is what the price increase post says. Tell them you are not paying chit!

Look for a price increase May 1. If you have a car on order the price is protected ONLY if the dealer goes into his Order Management System and attaches your name and address to that order.
Protect youself and your price by contacting the dealer and making sure this is done.

All car makers increase their prices for every new batch of cars being ordered. It would be foolish to assume that there won't be any price increase on the coupe after all these years. The price of the coupe has been increasing little by little from the day it came out. Why it increases? Well cost of parts to manufacture the car flactuates just like any other commodities. Just one reason of many that dictates the price that the car will sell for. Who knows why it really increases the fact of the matter is it just does.

I have a salesman that doesn't lie, I'm impressed. I am very involved with motorcycles, the aftermarket business for them, racing, etc. I've got some friends in high places in that industry. There is a metal shortage currently, it's not super dramatic, but it is costing them more to produce these cars, as well as the value of the American dollar in relation to foreign currency. There is also a shortage of Titanium currently. Having said that I called my dealer and they are trying to change specs on a current order to get my car in before this takes place. He said they'd get into the computer system and change specs before they go into production (very shortly) if there is time. My order wasn't supposed to go in, until next week, so I appreciate them trying to do what they can.

This is no rumor, it's going to happen If you have one on order, call your dealer before May 1st

Steel prices have gone up last year and with the gas prices, so have the shipping costs.... But, I work in the metal industry and prices have started to come down; there's plenty of supply compared to 2004.

Generally the big true price increases only occur with the new model year. They can change the invoice price, but in the end you really don't know what their true invoice price is, so you never can tell if the dealer is BSing you or not. You can watch the invoice on edmunds.com and see if that goes up...
The reality is we're entering the "Hot Season" for G coupes. People don't buy them up north in the winter much, now they are picking up big time which means less supply and higher prices...

If you want a deal on a 2005 wait until Dec.

I would bet the price increase is tied more to the weakening dollar than to increasing supply/shipping costs.
