you can only see the difference at night... during daytime, it should match.

Before you freak out completely, get under and all around your car and look for evidence of paint work. I don't car how good they are, if it was repainted you'll likely find a little trace evidence of it somewhere.

I'm in the same boat as the rest of the guys here. I bet it's the normal difference you see when you apply different paint over different types of surfaces. I thought the paint that was applied to the plastic pieces of our cars was a different type from that used on the metal, but I could be mistaken.

Before you make assumptions, look for evidence other than the slight difference in color. Look at it under different lighting conditions too - some light sources reveal more than others.

IP bumpers don't match the rest of the car. I have the same problem. Try informing the dealer you want to have it looked at by an Infiniti paint specialist, but good luck getting them to do anything about it.

As everyone else has been stating, the slight color variation is completely normal and expected. On My brother's 2001 pearl white cadillac sts for instance, the bumpers are a shade off, simply because some of it is fiberglass/plastic, some is metal. Pearl white along with IP are hard colors to match. I highly doubt your car was damaged and then repainted. I have also heard on some cars like Honda for instance, bumper parts and plastic accessories are painted at a different location then the car body, shipped and then put together. Dont know the validity of that but its what i heard. It doesnt seem unreasonable considering global manufacturing and production.

On the cars that use three stage paint the bumpers, side skirts, gas filler cap and some other parts are painted separately and at different times than the rest of the car.

Its not going to match. It probably wasn't repainted. It's just like that.

i would first verfiy with dealer management that it was damaged and painted.if it was maybe the can repaint it to better match.also based on my time in the biz with honda/acura white cars/trucks from honda sometimes dont even match from the factory.could this be the case from infiniti?maybe.if so you may want to get the factory rep involved for repair.goodluck

A friend of mine has an 03 IP and the rear bumper color is obviously different than the rest of the car. A few weeks ago, I even asked him if he had body work done recently and he confirmed that the mismatch was from factory. On my black G, the blending of the plastic and metal color seems much better. If you are successful in getting Infini address the problem, let us know on this board; I'll pass on the info to my friend.

yeah man....everyone is right....go check out new cars on any lot...whites and silvers almost never match perfectly...and it is because of the plastic vs. metal, color just holds different....I work in a body shop and have to sell this truth on a daily basis...

Does it really matter if the materials are different...I mean, shouldnt the piece being painted be primed first and you are just painting on top of the primer??? I'm no expert, but my IP seem to match....

Wow, okay guys thank for all the replys
This might all be true but it sucks that the car is a different color because its pretty obvious. I wouldn't mind if it was hard to tell but its pretty obvious if you look at the rear. The front bumper and gas cover match, its just the rear.

I will go to the dealer and check it out. Who knows they might do something about it. I will have to check closely to see if the bumper was removed but I am not sure how I can tell?
Other new cars might have this same problem but it might not be as much as mine, so because of this they might help me. If not, I will just deal with

several years back, I had a 98 honda prelude with diamond white pearl. The colors
on that car looked different too panel per panel at some different angles. It was
all factory paint, never repaired. It's just the way it is on some colors.

even my BS color on my G35C looks different panel per panel on some angles
at different lighting. It's usually caused by which way the metallic particles in the
paint is positioned. that's why it's so hard to paint match these colors.

here's a pict of my rear bumper. At this angle and this lighting,
it looks like the side of the bumper is a shade darker...but it's not.
parts are painted at different booths at different times so the
position of the particles is different.

so, don't worry.

I had not noticed this because I never really stared at all the body parts to see if the paint matched on a brand new car!!
The difference is not huge but its a shade or 2 darker than the rest of the car. I was in disbelief and still am, I cant believe it!!

Anyway, the dealer sold me a brand new car with a repainted rear bumper. I am assuming that there was a minor accident, probably in the lot, and the bumper was repainted. There is no mark of paint anywhere else on the car, so it was probably removed and remounted after getting repainted.
So guys, what can I do? I am very mad right now and do not want a new $40K car with a different bumper color
That is common. They park the cars so dam close somtimes they hit one other. You should get it confirmed by a AUTO body shop ,and then bring the car back to the dealer. They should either give you a rebate or a new car. GOOD luck..

Check the front bumper for differences in colour, and also other new rides. There will be a slight difference painting plastic than metal.
If you're still not happy, tell the dealer you want new paint, or new bumper.
