I want to install a Valentine 1 radar detector in the near future (no tickets yet, and I wanna keep it that way).

My question to those of you with detectors is: "How did you mount and wire them?" Did you just plug it into the cigarette lighter port in the front console, or did you hard-wire it into the car somewhere (fuse box, maybe?)?

I'd like to know how difficult it is to hardwire it into the car and conceal the wiring. I don't feel too good about removing the interior paneling to hide some wires.

I found an article about doing a "stealth install" of a V1 in a G35 Sedan, but that was way too involved for me. I'd like to just stick it onto the front windshield, but avoid plugging it right into the dash (which looks tacky), and minimize the visible wiring.

Any experience in this, guys? Thanks!

I hard-wired mine (passport 8500) via the fuse box (located by the driver's side kick plate - by the dead pedal to be exact).

Ran the wire along the head liner, and down in the A-pillar to the fuse box.

There's a few posts on this already. Try doing a search in the DIY or electronics section for the exact details.

I hardwired my V1 in my G coupe and ran the cord inside the headliner next to the windshield down inside the driver side A pillar (need to remove the cover, pops right off) to the fuse box and tapped into the cigarette lighter fuse. Also, for ground, I used a screw that screwed into bare sheet metal.

It looks clean and can't tell that I have a wire running down into the fuse box. My radar is mounted above to the left of my rear view mirror. You can mount it to the top right of the rearview mirror if you can't fully extend the driver side visor.

I mounted my unit on the passenger visor. I tucked the wire behind the headliner, side pillar and under the dash. I tied into the wires at the back of the ciggy lighter after pulling up the trim ring around the shifter. It's all hidden and is switched so when I start the car the detecor powers on.

G, remember that the copper can still pace you, so its not 100% foolproof!
a friend of mine got a ticket this way, and he has a V1 in his G...

Wow, thanks everyone. Looks like I am gonna be a big ole copycat and try to run it inside the headliner and tap the fusebox.

I did the exact same thing it took like 15 minutes to install and the best part is you dont have to hide the wires since you get the power right from the mirror.

More details and/or photos of the mirror method would be helpful. Did you guys have to make a custom bracket like the guy did in the "stealth install" for the V1 in the sedan? Cause that's just too involved (and in my opinion, crappy looking) for me.
