Winter Driving
Winter Driving
For anyone who had their G over last winter, how did it do in the snow and ice? I live in the midwest and sometimes we have mild winters, some times it's really bad. Just currious on how tough it is to drive in the bad winter weather, as my G would be an every day, all year car.

Re: Winter Driving
it is just fine in the winter/snow as long as you get some snow tires or all-seasons
The 18" Michelons that come with the car are summer tires, they are only good for wet/dry driving, and horrible on the snow.

Re: Winter Driving
I will be interested to see what happens when I get some snows on the car. I tried to drive the car with the 18" OEM tires, and its was frightening. Actually, the Michelin Pilots don't even seem to be that good of a rain tire. I will be getting some snows and then maybe some Bridgestone S03s for the summer.
Re: Winter Driving
I don't know how they do with winter tires, but I would not try to back of of my garage in the snow with the "factory" tires. . .they are HORRIBLE in the snow. I got my G35 Coupe in February, and had about 1 inch of snow a few days after I got it, and thought "it's just 1 inch, no problem". Boy was I wrong. I live about 12 blocks from work, and barely made it there and back home without wiping out!!! I will try some winter tires this year, or will not take it out of the garage if there is even a chance of snow. Just my $0.02

As Ramborami said, it's bad news on the stock Michelins. Useless even dangerous.
You either need good all seasons for the year, or buy snows like a lot of us did.
I have an A/T Coupe and have 17" Yokohama Winter Snows on Enkei rims (all 'round), and the car was fine.

Re: Winter Driving
I found them just fine on the dry pavement. Not much noise compared to stock. Can't tell about tire wear yet, only put on 2k clicks over the winter but the tire hardness is about average and shouldn't be too bad. They're H rated for speed.
Good grip in the snow, decent in the wet and quiet. I like them....

Re: Winter Driving
I've got 17x8" Enkeis with 225/55/17 Yokohama tires. Compared to the stock 18" settup, the winters are 3% slow on the front, and only 0.2% slow on the rears, due to their being slightly taller. Didn't cause any issues with ABS or VDC.
I went a little taller rather than wider to get better traction in snow. L8r..
