First long drive, I think I jarred a tooth loose
Well, I took the car for its first long drive. I drove from North Andover, MA to Newport, RI (about 150 miles one way). Well, the sport suspension is great, but I thought the car was going to shake and vibrate itself to pieces. I thought about pulling off the highway a few times so that the car wouldn't get damaged. The roads aren't the greatest, rough from all of the plowing and salting, but damn, my hands nearly fell asleep from the vibrations and constant jarring.

Yes, even without the sports suspension the car has a very stiff ride - with the sports suspension it can be punishing on rough roads. But among owners, for every person who finds it too harsh, there are probably 2 or 3 people who find it just right. I personally think Infiniti could sell more coupes if they made the non-sport suspension softer to appeal to more people (and older people), and leave the sport suspension the same for those who like to loosen their dental work while driving.

just wait till the rattles start... makes the bumps in the road much more noticable
honestly, the suspension stiffness doesnt bother me. I like it. Even with the disaster that is Michigan roads. I just try to avoid the bad spots as best i can
however, the rattles that accompany the stiffness i do not like.
thankfully i'm getting them fixed next week.

My 05 6MT Coupe is softer than I would like. But i don't come from a history of luxury cars.. I come from a turbo MR2, Celia All-Trac, and a Miata... i actually like the stiffness and responsiveness you get from the road. being able to feel the road underneath you is pretty important to me and is a huge part of the driving experience.. to be able to be connected to the pavement beneath you. i love the G35 but thank god i still have my miata.. that is driving in its purest form IMHO..
in the end i think it is all relative.
the G35 suspension feels like jello to me.

Coming from a Maxima, I find the ride quality of the G better than I had expected. Actually, I find my girlfriend's SLK230 a lot more stiff.
The most complaints about the suspension is from my dad after taking the G for a spin. I end up mocking him being too old for the G and should stick with his Lincoln or Cadillac.

ever driven the new 350z with the 18" Track rims? That thing is 10x as rough. When I drove my friend's one back from school, you could feel everything on the freeway. Lots of road noise, wind noise, and the suspension actually bounces. I would put it up there with the roughness of a old wooden coaster.
You know what I mean? The "ugh ugh ugh clunk clunk clunk" feeling. The G35 coupe 6mt, even with the sport suspension felt so much better. I think people are just too used to the luxury sedan's ride.

Well, as I said, I think the sport suspension is great! I think it handles the large bumps well compared to many other sport oriented cars. I wouldn't have ordered it if I didn't want it. I wasn't looking for a boulivard cruiser or I would have bought a Mercedes or a big sled Lincoln or something. I just thought it was a bit funny bouncing along the highway. Its not the car, its the roads! ;-) Yes, I have owned other sporty cars (GTI, Saleen Mustang) and sport motorcycles (CBR 600, R6, etc.), I know how they are, I just felt bad for the G having to mitigate these terrible freeway surfaces. Plus, I'm used to the big truck tires of my pick up. Luckily, this car is not my daily driver, it spends the winters in the garage and comes out to play in nice weather.

I dunno how you guys find the G (even with sport suspension) to be stiff. It glides over bumps in my opinion. I live in NYC and i dont find it that stiff. I might even bump the air pressure to 35-37 just to portect the 19s.
I'm coming from a Honda Prelude that was lowered and had koni shocks set to stiff. Talk about feeling even a peble. But then again i hate luxury rides... make me wanna fall asleep.
