OEM exhaust ... sound difference ???
Does anyone know if NISSAN/INFINITI changed the exhaust on the coupes from 03/04 to 05. Reason why i'm asking is my 03 is way louder then the 05. Any clue as to why it is.
On 03 i have 25,XXX miles
on 05 i have 83 miles
I know its still new and all but even when i got the 03 it was still louder then the 05.

I'm not sure if they changed the sound at all, but I swear my 04, now with 25,000 miles has gotten louder. especially at low rpm's.
I think its normal for the exhaust to get louder as time goes on.

exhaust note doesnt change with time. Not possible. Unless you have a hole in the pipe.
My 03 still sounds the same. That kinda gives me an idea of swaping exhausts with someone who wants a quieter one.
-BBB: Yes i have 2.
I bought one 2yrs ago when they just came out. But ended up giving it to my mom and dad. Now leasing 05.

i dont get how you say that. Cause on 03 say 2k-4k exhaust note is somewhat loud. on 05 it comes in slightly at 2k and is silent at 3k+
I find myself driving with window down and radio off onthe 03 listening to the note much more then on 05.
AM I just ****
dont answer that

Perhaps it has, but hard to tell. I know initially I had a tough time getting used to the relatively quiet exhaust as I heel-toe downshift(I tend to rely on the sound of the motor to rev-match). But it seems much easier now, but I'm not sure if I'm just more used to it or if it has gotten louder.

Your neighbors need to get over it
My old 96 Dodge Ram with Mopar headers and straight through 3" Mopar exhaust was my neighbors alarm clock for her daughter. Now that was a SWEET sound... sold it for the G35 coupe though. The G's exhaust is nice, but my old truck was the best. I would definitely not want my exhaust to be quieter.

1. Carbon build-up on the inside of the pipe can affect the way that the steel resonates, causing a change in sound pitch.
2. Catalytic converters tend to break down over time, increasing the overall exhaust volume.
3. The constant heat cycles begin to change the resonance characteristics of the metal, causing a change in pitch. Note that several instrument companies use heat cycles on their metallic componants (eg saxophone makers) to make sure the metal has the right tone and 'ring' to it.
