Paint Scratch
Paint Scratch
Hey guys, the other day I let my girlfriend drive the G and while she was pulling in to park she hit one of those triangle cement cones on the grass. It scratched the very bottom of the front bumper. The scratch is about 3 centimeters long. Where do you think I should take it, and how much do you think it will cost? Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Paint Scratch
is it visible from the outside?
if not, then who cares, i have like 3 scratches now on the bottom of my front bumper lol
its so dam low to the ground, it seems to attrack those little cement parking block bumper things.
I did have a visible scratch and I repaired that by:
1) sanding the area down to the black material (the bumper is not steel, its polyurethane or something like that)
2) put 1 layer of touch-up paint per directions on the bottle (purchased from Grubbs Infiniti website $5.75 i believe)
3) let dry for 1 hour, then apply 1 layer of clear-coat touch-up paint (purchased from local auto retail shop, also $5)
4) let dry for at least 2 hours, then wet-sand with some sand paper (very fine..i believe its 8000 grit)
5) the large scratch is now non-visible, unless you put your eye 2 inches from the area and you can see that it was touched up (thats normal)
If you are unsure about using touch-up, then you can always buy a "touch-up paint kit" from your local store and it has exact, specific instructions, including sand paper, clearcoat, sander stick, base-coat (you only need this on bare-metal)
Good luck.

I took my car to very highly known body shop in NYC he does high end cars like ferraris, benz etc... i know the owner of the place he took 1 full day and he charged me 80 but that's because i know him if not he would of charged about 200 for something small i know its crazy $$ but this guys work is incredible. Make sure you take your car atleast to a descent shop and it shouldn't be more then 150, and that's alot!!!
Re: Paint Scratch
Its up to you if you want to spend the money i spent it because it's a new car and i couldnt see my baby hurt that's the only reason, and about taking it to the infiniti body shop they charge an arm and a leg for anything so it's up 2 you!!!!
Re: Paint Scratch
Damn, I didn't think it would be that much. It's just scraped a little. I guess this has taught me a valuable lesson: Never let anyone else drive my G

Re: Paint Scratch
hey bro, that doesnt look too visible to the naked eye...
see, i am a do-it-yourselfer cheap-skate so thats why i recommend.....doing it yourself and costing only $10
I mean its not 100% professional look but it sure beats paying $150!
I'll keep touching up my front bumper until i can find a clear-bra installer in Southeastern-Detroit-Area, Michigan
I wish i could find one here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have 2 large scratches so far on the bumper (both repaired, by me )

Re: Paint Scratch
I dunno, bro. I know it looks kinda grim to you, but looking at the position it's in, it's really not that bad ... could've been much worse!
I would first just try covering it with touch-up paint, then throw a few coats of Zaino Z5 over it, to minimize it as much as possible. That's a cheap remedy. Then, if afterwards it's still really eating at you, you can always spend the extra dough to have it professionally repaired, and you won't have lost that much out-of-pocket beforehand. Otherwise, save your money for when you have something really bad to fix up.
You just have to realize that the wound is really in the kind of position where if you can just get it to blend in even a little bit, most people won't notice it.
