I got the paper with my car when I bought it. It's called microchip. When your car is stolen they track it on the internet and police got get it. Just like low-jack. Maybe you should sue your dealership for not giving you that.

Ok you think so, I'll post the paper form filled out and all. It was given for free by the dealership. Why would I lie! I don't know this guy that got his car stolen. Im just trying to help.

First of all, what a horrible story! So sorry to hear about it

Second....I'm confused...

Why would an insurance company care about a loan? The car is worth what the car is worth! (especially with GAP)

You putting $5k down on your loan only helps you lower your monthly payments...it doesn't change the value of the car....
and with GAP, you should get 100% of the value of the car. Which would mean, after you paid off the loan, you would be left with $5,000....right?

Can you explain to me how you lose our on your $5000?

So, if you put $30,000 down, you would be out $30,000? I think your insurance company is trying to pull one over on you.

SweetNlow,
I appreciate the effort. I did not receive a form like you mentioned. The only thing they told me about was that the key had a security chip that if not present would disable the ignition after five,(?), attempts to start. Maybe your dealership gave you a special on a tracking system of some sort? Again, thanks for the help.

Madchef,
I think I'm out 5K because my insurance pays me what the car is worth while the Gap insurance covers the difference to cover depreciation. This way I don't owe a cent when everything is paid out, (save for any dealer closing fees).

I think I'm out at least some of the 5K because the minute I drove the car off the lot it dropped in value a bit. 5K? Maybe not but I'm not too optimistic about getting a fat check from Safeco after they pay off the loan. Maybe I am not understanding this whole thing correctly but that is how I understand it.

I'm not going to worry about it now because nothing has happened and I don't know what the future holds. Hell, maybe they'll find my car parked at the thief's mother's house because he gave it to her for a Mother's Day present and she only drove it to church that night

I thought you were able to reprogram the chip in the key. I know I've seen the GTR keys for sale that actually work on the G35's. They even provide how to reset the chip in the key so it works with the new GTR key

This is the only thing that my Dealership offered (Networkcar) it is not part of the Ignition Key, it is a separate feature for your car. The dealer will have it installed, but it is done with the installer's knowledge only.

Where can I get more info on those keys? I actually need some replacement keys after getting an alarm installed.

you should not lose 5k, at least for my insurance, they have this protection, for the first 2 year of a new car, they have to pay full amount of what you pay for the car not what the car is worth, after 2 years they will only pay you what the car is worth, or if you lease/finance they will just clear the loan for you at least. check with your insurance i'm sure it work the same. btw look at my sign i know how you feel, my car was stolen too. and it does take insurance a month, because they will try to find the car back before they pay you for the car.
good luck

I've only found them on Ebay and at some shops which sell JDM stuff. Search on ebay for GTR Key

Gettaluvr,

Thanks for the feedback. Fingers are crossed the insurance company doesn't try to screw me over. I'll keep all of you updated.

Cheers,

**UPDATE**

Well, Vancouver PD called today to say the car has been recovered. Apparently it had been involved in two high speed chases but the guys got away. It was later found in an underground parking lot after being abandoned for a few days.

According to the police it has "significant" damage.

Large dent to right rear bumper
Driver's side door handle ripped clean off
Scratches to hood, trunk, roof, front bumper
Rear passenger taillight scratched
Dent in trunk
Conflicting information on significant ignition damage or any at all.

I haven't seen the car yet and they won't let me until they've "processed it". That includes dusting for prints.

Guys, this has really got me down. I'm worried that the car will never be the same if it is deemed repairable. I just bought the damn thing and now I may be doomed to 3.5 years of driving a less than 100% G35. UGH!! Sorry, had to vent but I thought I'd update all. Thanks for reading.

Joe

i wonder how the thieves were able to start the car and drive it around considering the vehicle "immobilizer"?

Sorry Joe. I'm in Redmond and enjoy visiting BC with my girlfriend quite often. I also go to Infiniti of Kirkland. What really makes me worried is that mine is also an '05 Lakeshore Slate coupe 6mt. I also have Safeco auto insurance. I really don't think you'll lose any money on the deal. Example: $35k for car, $5k down bringing the loan to $30k, stolen, car is worth $32k, Safeco pays $32k, GAP covers $3k, $35k total payback, $30k to lender, $5k to you.

Also, I hope they total it for you. It's never the same, plus the motor was probably put through its numbers. Man, I feel bad for you. Next time you're on the Eastside, let me buy you a cup of coffee. I'll let you drive my car a bit too.
