Thinking of buying G35 coupe, HELP!

I'm a proud new parent and I have a '01 vette. My wife doesn't like the idea of a baby seat in the passenger seat of the vette. So, I thought I would check out the G35. I really like and hopefully will pull the string on one this week. I know I want the premium package, but what else should I get as options on the coupe? Also, what mods should I do first?

Thanks for you help!

Looks like you're focused on modding it rather then your baby! lol I'm not sure if this count's as a mod, but Tinted Window's would be a nice thing. The good thing about these car's is that they already have enough power to keep you satisfied and you won't end up like a civic driver constantly moding his car to "keep up" with the competition out there hehehe... But go for the Tint, maybe a front lip and that new Nismo spoiler. You might take a look at the Stillen Big Air Intake (I think that's what it's called) and perhap's a future Stillen Cat Bak exhaus system. The stock exhaust already sounds beautiful when you start and aggressive at high speeds though so I dunno, really up 2 your preferences. Just to be on the safe side since the car is a first generation car you might want to take a look at the Automatic. Very few people are/were experiencing problems, but the 5 speed auto's are still fast, come with a 5 speed manumatic and only .2 sec's slower. Also would be a good thing since you'd have a baby in the car, you'd be a lot more flexible in a auto with a baby then a manny tranny.

Should I get the DVD Navigation system with it?

If you have the means get the Navi. It's a cool gadget.

I opted to skip the navigation since it dosen't play DVDs. I might add an aftermarket one.

Navi seems like a fun little feature; however, I didn't get it because my car didn't come with it. If I would of ordered it, chances are it would of taken month's just 2 get a car that was up 2 my needs. I could live with ou it. As for it not having a DVD player; You can just connect one 2 your screen.

lol, well its not as simple as just connecting one to your screen. Have you actually LOOKED at the instructions for just getting an input linked into it?? Then you still have to get a player to push it. Not to mention that the components are NOT readily accessible. It is possible, but its not like a $10 part you can just install in 15 minutes and pow your watching the Matrix.

The Nav system is fun, especially for the passengers. I can't even get them to focus on the ride, they're so busy pushing buttons and whatnot on the Navi.

if you are a person who isnt afraid to modify his car, then you should go with an aftermarket navi solution
But if you have the $$ to get it, then go ahead and get it, its a nice toy to have.
For me, the $2000 i saved will be invested in a bit more entertaining piece of equipment....a PC in the car!

Re: Thinking of buying G35 coupe, HELP!

Call me crazy but the car is so interesting, espec. with the 6 speed, that I found it superfluous to get the nav. Plus, at $2K, I'd rather consider what mods I want to put in like a cat back exhaust, different intake, etc., none of which I'm doing just yet. Why? Well, frankly I'd like a few more people to have 'em and make posts on 'em before I plunk down hard dollars.
With a youngster in the car, I'd strongly consider at auto/manumatic as posted here. It just makes a little bit more sense and hardly reduces the performance of the car.

You will enjoy either the manual or automatic unless you're numb already which I doubt after driving a 'Vette. Join us! We can't wait.

Re: Thinking of buying G35 coupe, HELP!

I just got back from a week-long trip to Disney World with my wife, a 6 year-old & a 4 month old. Plenty of room for the kids, plenty of room for us. I got the Nav and have used it regularly. You can modify it to play dvds for under $400. 2k is kinda steep but it looks a lot better than an aftermarket jammed into the pocket the stock nav screen retracts into. I don't know how much an aftermarket screen and nav system runs but with installation costs and the time to take it to a shop and leave it I decided to just check the box on my order form.

The 2k price for the nav really irks me. I'm a computer professional so I have a pretty fair idea of what they cost Infiniti, and I know I can find a laptop for 2k that will not only guide me anywhere I want to go, but will also play games, movies, music, you name it.

If you get the AT, you have to get the performance tire and wheel package. Otherwise, you don't get LSD.
