20 Inch Flat Tire

I was driving on the highway when i heard a noise coming from my rear drivers side tire. I pulled over knowing it was a flat. When I got out the rear tire was smoking I changed the tire and noticed that the tire was ripped in the inner side of the rim. Anyone ever had this experence or knows why the tire was smoking.

yes this happened to me, once you drive on flat tires your tire will wear from the inside.

More importantly did you damage your rim? I'm worried if I ever have a flat I'll damage my lip. Did the rim touch the ground?

You must have been driving on it for a while and not noticed it. The car seems fairly stable with a flat. Rubbing on the body work would have caused it to smoke.

It's better to keep the air pressure sensor that will keep us inform of the low air pressure in any of the tires.

The most probable reason the tire was smoking is that once it went flat all of the forces were on the outer edges of the tire and that will cause the tire to get very hot. Even low tire pressure will cause the tire to run hot at highway speeds.
